Forbes announced yesterday that GlobalComix had secured a new round of funding, brought on Henrik Rydberg as our new CEO (with co-founder Christopher Carter moving into a technology and innovation role), and acquired digital comics and technology platform INKR.
We know there are a lot of questions currently surrounding the fact that some of INKR's tools have AI applications, so we prepared an FAQ to help answer any questions you might have. If you have questions not covered here, please drop them in a reply and we will get them answered and added.
GlobalComix FAQ - Acquisition of INKR
Q: Are my comics used to train AI models?
A: GlobalComix does not use publisher or creator content to train generative AI models.
Our AI tools analyze comics to enable features such as translation and accessibility, but the underlying models are not trained on your comics.
Your work remains your intellectual property and is not used to teach AI systems how to generate new comics.
Q: Can the tools translate my comic without permission?
A: Translation features are controlled by publishers or creators as the rights holders.
If translation is enabled, it is done as a platform feature designed to help publishers and creators reach new audiences. They choose whether to enable these capabilities.
Q: Does this replace human translators or letterers?
A: No. Translators and letterers remain essential to the localization process. The tools are designed to assist their workflow, not replace them.
Q: Is my artwork being modified by AI?
A: No. Some tools may analyze pages to identify elements like text areas or panel layouts to assist with accessibility or translation workflows. This analysis does not alter the artwork itself, and the original page files remain unchanged. Any translated lettering or localization work is handled through publisher- or translator-controlled workflows, with the original artwork preserved.
Q: Are the use of these AI tools optional?
A: Yes. Publishers and rights holders choose whether to participate in AI-powered features.
Our approach is opt-in and publisher-controlled, ensuring creators and publishers retain control over how their content is used on the platform.
Q: Is this why you raised funding?
A: Our funding supports GlobalComix’s broader mission to build the infrastructure for digital comics worldwide.
That includes improving the reader experience, expanding global access to comics, supporting publishers, and developing tools that help creators reach new audiences.
AI is only one component of that larger vision.
This is related to a new feature we introduced, Release Types. This allows you to upload all releases to a single series, whether Issues, Trade, Compendium, etc., and the reader can select which they prefer to read.
The release numbers can be edited on the release edit page or the metadata tab.
If you subscribed to the app, you must cancel through the app store's subscription manager. The app stores control the billing for any subscriptions made in-app.
For iOS, you can find out more here: https://support.apple.com/billing
For Android, more info can be found here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481
We're excited to be able to share an early preview of a major update to GlobalComix on the web. There are significant improvements to the homepage, explore (formerly 'comics'), and reading experience to discover, in addition to features we're bringing over from the GlobalComix app like Channels and your Library.
Since this is an early preview we anticipate bugs and issues. If you run into those, please report them in this forum.
If you didn't get an invite through email but would like to help us test this new version, you can opt into the new GlobalComix web experience by following these steps:
Opt-in to this update easily by following the steps below:
Navigate to your settings tab, select “Opt-In to the new GlobalComix web experience” and click “Save”.

To migrate your subscription over to web, you must cancel the subscription through the iOS App Store. You can learn more on how to do that here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428
Once you've canceled the subscription on iOS, you can subscribe here: https://globalcomix.com/gold/yearly
Please make sure to cancel on iOS first, as Apple manages the subscription, and if you don't then you will continue to be charged through Apple.

We are currently in the process of researching the best way to support vertical scroll comics in a PDF format. Part of that research means defining the rules and requirements for having vertical releases be eligible to be put for sale. One example of that from traditional pages that we’re putting in place is having a minimum of 6 pages in a release in order to put it for sale.
However, the problem we are looking to solve here is that the count of panels / length of vertical comics varies greatly on an episode-to-episode, and creator-to-creator basis. With traditional comic formatting, a page is always going to be a page, so it’s easy to say “We want a PDF to be at least 6 pages (since traditional pages average 5-7 panels)” to ensure some level of storytelling-to-pricing consistency.
After some research and looking at over 5000 releases with vertical comics, we’ve found that the average panel size is roughly the height of a phone screen, or 1600-2000 pixels tall.
In keeping with the same model of calculation as with traditional pages, this means that the rough equivalent of “one traditional page” for vertical would be 6 panels * 1800 pixels height, or 10800 pixels.
With this in mind, we can say that somewhere between 50k and 70k pixels is a similar number of panels to the number you would find in 6 pages of a traditional comic. Further analysis of vertical releases on GlobalComix finds that while a large number of published releases do in fact meet this criteria, more than 40% do not. Therefore we might consider making the requirement somewhere in the range of 35-50k pixels tall as a minimum to give some leeway to creators who have smaller releases.
Our goal here is to ensure the most consistent experience for your readers when they decide to purchase a PDF version of your story and thus transition to become your customers. Within the GC reader, it’s easy to provide a seamless transition between smaller episodes, but that isn’t always the case for PDFs. We also want to make sure that they are able to enjoy as much of a completed chapter as possible with each PDF purchase.
We’re establishing best practices and guidelines to ensure that we are able to deliver the highest quality product possible for your readers, and that is why we are asking for your input to make sure that we are strongly delivering on the expectations of both creators and readers.
We would love to get your thoughts on this so that we can begin developing vertical comic PDF support.
