FAQ regarding GlobalComix's acquisition of INKR

Hi everyone,

Forbes announced yesterday that GlobalComix had secured a new round of funding, brought on Henrik Rydberg as our new CEO (with co-founder Christopher Carter moving into a technology and innovation role), and acquired digital comics and technology platform INKR.

We know there are a lot of questions currently surrounding the fact that some of INKR's tools have AI applications, so we prepared an FAQ to help answer any questions you might have. If you have questions not covered here, please drop them in a reply and we will get them answered and added.

GlobalComix FAQ - Acquisition of INKR

Q: Are my comics used to train AI models?

A: GlobalComix does not use publisher or creator content to train generative AI models.

Our AI tools analyze comics to enable features such as translation and accessibility, but the underlying models are not trained on your comics.

Your work remains your intellectual property and is not used to teach AI systems how to generate new comics.

Q: Can the tools translate my comic without permission?

A: Translation features are controlled by publishers or creators as the rights holders.

If translation is enabled, it is done as a platform feature designed to help publishers and creators reach new audiences. They choose whether to enable these capabilities.

Q: Does this replace human translators or letterers?

A: No. Translators and letterers remain essential to the localization process. The tools are designed to assist their workflow, not replace them.

Q: Is my artwork being modified by AI?

A: No. Some tools may analyze pages to identify elements like text areas or panel layouts to assist with accessibility or translation workflows. This analysis does not alter the artwork itself, and the original page files remain unchanged. Any translated lettering or localization work is handled through publisher- or translator-controlled workflows, with the original artwork preserved.

Q: Are the use of these AI tools optional?

A: Yes. Publishers and rights holders choose whether to participate in AI-powered features.

Our approach is opt-in and publisher-controlled, ensuring creators and publishers retain control over how their content is used on the platform.

Q: Is this why you raised funding?

A: Our funding supports GlobalComix’s broader mission to build the infrastructure for digital comics worldwide.

That includes improving the reader experience, expanding global access to comics, supporting publishers, and developing tools that help creators reach new audiences.

AI is only one component of that larger vision.
