Re: Do you maintain a schedule for creation of your comic? Do you use a buffer?
@ArtCrumbs The morning schedule came about because originally I would work on the comic at night after my kids were asleep, but it was far too easy to stay up late, thinking "I'll just do this one last thing, then call it a night"... But then I'd find another tweak I'd want to make, and another, and before I knew it, it was 2 am. I ended up getting really tired. Switching to the mornings gave me a "hard out" - a time at which I HAD to stop working on the comic and get ready for my day job. It's worked much better for me.

Re: Do you maintain a schedule for creation of your comic? Do you use a buffer?
I do work on my comic on a regular schedule - every weekday morning I do about an hour and a half on it - but I long ago abandoned the idea of trying to keep a regular schedule to post pages. So I have no buffer, I just try to make each page look as good as I possibly can, however long that takes. I find it is a lot less stressful that way.

Re: Do you have certain shows or games you go to for advice or inspiration?
@ArtCrumbs Yeah, I've read Uzumaki, it was quite disturbing! Horror in comics is hard to do, so I always admire a creator like Ito who can actually pull it off!

Re: Do you have certain shows or games you go to for advice or inspiration?
Not shows or games, but when I want a jolt of inspiration I usually read one or more of the following:
- any 1970s Jack Kirby comic
- Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo
- anything by Naoki Urasawa
- an EC comic story, especially something by Will Elder, John Severin, Jack Davis
Basically, reading another comic that was masterfully done makes me want to try and reach that level. I find games are good for stress relief but they are also a time-suck, so I try to limit my gaming time - I've got a comic to write and draw!

Re: Creator Tips and Tricks 17: Recovering from Blocks and Burnout
Excellent essay, ArtCrumbs! I've been in a bit of a creative block funk lately, myself, I think mainly due to stress and exhaustion from stuff outside of comic-making. Starting to get back in the saddle in the last few days, though!

Re: Characters you really related to
Sorry if this is too heavy, but when I was a little kid with newly-divorced parents I related to Mr Spock from Star Trek. I had a lot of emotions to process (obviously) and seeing a character on TV who was able to control his emotions and not let them overwhelm him helped me to at least attempt to control my own, at that time. (I later realized as an adult that I actually repressed a LOT, but as a kid, having Spock as an example allowed me to at least function.)

I've never told anyone that before!

Re: Comic Book Podcasts
My favorite podcast is Comic Book Club Live! They record weekly, the review the week's new comics and almost always interview at least one creator. They have a lot of indy creators on to promote their upcoming Kickstarters or newly released comics. It's also streamed live on YouTube and Crowdcast each week. https://comicbookclublive.com/

Re: When you have a character and you can't come up with a story for them.
I usually take the "character first" approach - work out the character's personality and background, etc. and then figure out a story for them to work in. Like with my character Steamroller Man, for example - he's a character who wants to do good and be a hero, but his power is basically destroying things, so he often does more harm than good. Since my comic is a comedy, I started trying to think of situations that would be funny to put that character into. From there, just letting your mind wander a bit and daydreaming about that character/setting combo will suggest other details like other characters to interact with, etc. Before you know it, you've got the bones of a story!

Re: Welcome to the Official GlobalComix Helpdesk
Hi! I uploaded the first two issues of my comic as separate releases without a problem! My question is, as I currently work on my third issue is it possible to upload each page as it's ready and still have all the pages for this issue be part of a single release named Issue Three? Or would doing it that way cause each page to become a separate release? I basically want to have the Issue Three be a dedicated volume into which I can upload each new page as it's done, but still have it look like a single issue/release on the Steamroller Man homepage. I hope you understand what I mean and look forward to any light you can shed on this!
