Characters you really related to
Have there been characters that you just absolutely relate or related to?
For me it's Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. I first read the comic strip in the fifth grade in my classroom during reading time. I am on the spectrum (ASD) and Calvin was just...me in a sense. I just related to a child who lives in their own little world which was me. I still relate to him now almost twenty years later and I even have my own stuffed tiger I named Hobbes.
@Quoth143 this is a tricky one actually :P A lot, or most, of the stories that I read are so over-the-top that similarity quickly fades heh.
Shit .. maybe a character from "Pondus" - a Norwegian comic: https://www.strandcomics.no/pondus-comic
@scottsummer70 Always good choices! I miss that show so much!
@ArtCrumbs me too, I still find myself talking like Dean and saying "Awesome" all the time.
I'm secretly wondering if anyone will reference "Cat Goat Dog" in this thread =D @BaronVonDC poke!
@Christopher today I kind of relate to the Dog in "Cat Goat Dog" LOL
@BaronVonDC I can relate to Cat on some days, I'm not the brightest and sometimes you just... wish some things weren't illegal. XD
@daisam I have to agree with you there. I don't know if I strongly associate with characters as much as others, but I do understand the prompt.
I must say though, sometimes I relate very much to Saitama's personal struggles. Not that I'm lacking in the emotions department (rather the opposite), but sometimes I have to remind myself why I'm doing what I'm doing. That there is a purpose behind my work and life.
Please don't take that in a negative or sad way! I'm only being super honest!
@Sarah-Lane ... if I were to be honest I have difficulty associating past very basic attributes of characters. I think I have a light dissociative disorder. Like... how can I related to something if I don't exist? Haha... I'm probably going a little deep there!
Sorry if this is too heavy, but when I was a little kid with newly-divorced parents I related to Mr Spock from Star Trek. I had a lot of emotions to process (obviously) and seeing a character on TV who was able to control his emotions and not let them overwhelm him helped me to at least attempt to control my own, at that time. (I later realized as an adult that I actually repressed a LOT, but as a kid, having Spock as an example allowed me to at least function.)
I've never told anyone that before!
@MattSchofield
Not too heavy at all. I find that absolutely fascinating. I was an adult when my parents divorced and it took such a mental toll on me. I have commented several times that I couldn’t imagine the effects it would have on a child.
Hmm good question. I guess I related to a lot of teen characters in movies like this Italian film called Caterina va in Citta' and something like Quadrophenia. That frustration we experience as teens with others and our family. As 26 years old now, I suppose I relate to a character who just wants a simple, inconspicuous life (can't think of an example though).
