Kevin Featured Comics • May 18, 2021

Persevere, Issue #1 of the Resilience: Creators Against COVID anthology is now available to read on GlobalComix. Persevere is a short comic highlighting the different, real-world struggles that people are enduring during the pandemic. Featuring real people interviewed during August of 2020.

This issue was written Landry Walker (Batman) with art by Eric Jones (Star Wars), letters by Taylor Esposito (Daredevil) and editing by Janelle Asselin (DC Entertainment, Disney, ComicsAlliance, Rosy Press).

All proceeds from this comic will be donated to Fantastic Comics in Berkeley, CA

To go along with the release of the issue, we have a message from Landry Walker:

Approaching this story, a theme of resilience in the face of an overwhelming intersection of a global pandemic and political corruption, initially felt disconnected to me; though my life has been very challenging at times, I have to be aware that the struggles felt recently by so many have mostly slipped past. It felt like any story I might have attempted to tell from my perspective would have been artificial, and that was not what I wanted.

So I reached out to people I have known for decades. People who-- unlike me-- have been cut more deeply by recent events. I interviewed them in late August 2020, and attempted to weave their responses into a narrative that described both the weight they felt and the hope that carried them.

The art in this story is provided by my frequent collaborator Eric Jones, who also has known all of these people for many, many years, and the lettering is by Taylor Esposito, one of the best in the industry who I have wanted to work with for years.

Though we are not all directly affected by these crises, each one of us is part of a community, and what cuts one of us wounds us all -- Landry Walker
