The 41 Comics of May 2021

By KevinFeatured Comics • May 31, 2021 0

As we wind down one month and get ready for another, let's take a look back at the 41 comics we featured during the month of May.

Outside of our official announcement of Source Point Press coming to GlobalComix, the month had a heavy focus on smaller teams and individual creators. We wanted to make sure that our features continued to align with the vision for the platform as a whole: to make it easier to discover the amazing work of indie comic creators.

No matter the size of the team that worked on the comics featured in May, there's one thing that rings true with all of them, and that's great storytelling. Let us know your favorites in the comments, and be...

May Feature #8: A History of Ideas

By KevinFeatured Comics • May 28, 2021 0

Often times we're challenged to think big, and when we do, we're told to think bigger. There's no better place for thinking big than in science fiction. Human history is made up of ideas that have become reality, primarily on the shoulders of big thinkers. Sometimes innovation even draws its inspiration from those wild and crazy ideas of the past.

Ray Bradbury once said "Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself." We see it all the time in mainstream media, film, and literature. So for May feature #8, we're highlighting...

Cloudscape Marketing Case Study Part 2: Finding the Audience

By gamalhennessyCommunity • May 25, 2021 0

Last week, we analyzed the Cloudscape anthology Welcome to Mina’s to build a story synopsis, define an ideal reader and identify the competition for the comic.

This week, I’ll suggest some tactics for how a book like Mina’s can find the right audience and build a strong following without spending a lot of marketing dollars.

Keywords: Any words used to classify or organize digital content or to facilitate an online search for information are referred to as keywords. Because people gravitate towards groups and communities online that reflect their interests, you can use keywords to find the specific group you are trying to reach. And because every comic...

Cloudscape Case Study Part 1: Market Research

By gamalhennessyCommunity • May 13, 2021 0

Marketing comics is not a one size fits all process. Because each comic tells a unique story, and that story has a unique audience, then the relationship between the publisher and the reader needs to be tailored to give the book the best chance of success in the marketplace. Unique stories require unique marketing.

This case study is designed to walk you through the marketing analysis and execution for a single comic. Hopefully, you can take some of the insights and ideas presented here and apply them to your own comic. As always, if you have questions, please leave a comment and let us know.

May Feature #4: Imagination Is Everything

By KevinFeatured Comics • May 13, 2021 0

When thinking about a theme for today's feature, I wanted to pair something with the adventure feature from earlier this week. It was a pretty easy decision to make: fantasy. By definition, most comics can be considered fantasy. However, the fantasy genre is at its best when it acts as an extension of adventure.

From fellowships to kingdoms, fantasy stories are all about stoking the flames of imagination. Skyscrapers become castles; cars become carriages, and magic is prevalent. Ultimately, fantasy is often a reflection of our own realities, simply painted in a different light.

Check out all five of the comics featured below, and let us know your favorite fantasy stories in the comments!

GlobalComix is the New Source for Source Point Press

By KevinPartnerships • May 6, 2021 0

Amazing stories can come from anywhere. They aren’t confined to the writer’s rooms of Hollywood, the publishing houses of New York or the stages of London. Narrative art can thrive wherever the craft and the vision to create them can flourish.

This reality is even more true in comics, where writers, artists, and editors can collaborate from anywhere in the world to bring you stories from every walk of life.

Source Point Press is a prime example of unique and expansive storytelling. The publisher started in the heart of Michigan but their catalog of horror, science fiction and true crime has grown a worldwide audience of adults and children over the years. Their...

By gamalhennessyPartnerships • Apr 30, 2021 0

Comics aren’t just about superheroes. There are as many genres of sequential art as can be found in books, movies, or television. Comics also aren’t just about fictional characters. There is a strong tradition of biography, history, and journalism in the comics medium.

One of the more prominent publishers in non-fiction comics recently added their impressive catalog of titles to GlobalComix.

Tidal Wave Productions offers multimedia experience unparalleled in both the graphic fiction and nonfiction marketplace. Their titles include in-depth explorations of prominent figures across the political and entertainment spectrum, with features ranging from Betty White to Stormy...

For today's feature, we wanted to shine the spotlight on TidalWave Productions and picked out five series that we thought you'd enjoy. While many of TidalWave's releases are biographical in nature, there are fictional stories as well. We've included a good mix of the two for you to check out below.

GlobalComix Exclusive: The Jonesey and Dr. Long Adventures by Unlikely Heroes Studios

By KevinPartnerships • Apr 23, 2021 0

We’re excited to share an amazing new series that you’ll be able to access exclusively through GlobalComix or the publisher’s Patreon. The Jonesey and Dr. Long Adventures, published by Unlikely Heroes Studios, is written by John Pence (The Surgeon, Up from the Skies) and drawn by Maxim Mel (Do Well Camp with Max Bemis, Fractured Scary Tales).

The series is a loving send-up of, and homage to, the two-fisted, gin-soaked, nicotine-stained Sunday comics of the 20th Century with a pretty smooth 1:1 ratio of action and jokes. Comics fans and scholars will see nods to legends like Steve Canyon, The Phantom, or The Spirit, all built in a world of animal characters and...
