Lanugage choises for non-English publishers
I'm testing this site as a possible candidate in the future for digital publications of manga release in Slovenian. The language itself is not available yet.
When will the choices expand and under what conditions? Does this only mark the language of the works (as per general) or will also enable language skin for the home pages of comics published under our name?
At the same time I'd like to ask roundabout at what time can we expect to have licensing and monetization tools and is there a basic list of what these features will offer? It would be nice to have already made a platform which we could use but one of the problems is that atm we can sell translated manga only inside the country (IP block) and we have a pretty peculiar audience when it comes to language...
Hi @Katarina,
Thanks for pinging us! I have lots of good news for you! Let me address the 3 questions/points you're asking about.
1) Slovenian as choice for release language
I've now added Slovenian to our languages list and you can use it as a valid language for your releases already.
2) About website localization
We're going to be adding the website localization at some point shortly after we release our comics/content translation marketplace. It's likely that we'll start with major languages first (EN, FR, ES, JP, ++), but we'll also likely make a way for people to suggest translations in other languages. I can't make any promises on timeframe here.
3) Licensing and monetization tools
There's some good news for you here. We've developed and are beta testing these tools already now. You'll find this test being applied to some of the content that our friends at MangaHelpers are publishing. These tools come both with monetization options, as well as regional licensing / access restriction tools that allow you to control who can access your content (for free, or paid) by region -- exactly as you expect and describe.
The "public" launch of this depends a little bit on feedback from the beta test, as well us making sure that the experience is great end to end. Both for creators, and for users who are paying to access content!
More details on this should follow soon (tm).
1) Thank you :)
2) I'd definitely be interested to contribute to the localization in case this site will be my no.1 choice. Atm it looks like it wouldn't exceed over 100 lines and the site doesn't have complicated vocabulary...
3) Well as a normal user I can't see any indication of that... or maybe it's all already region locked for me and I don't know. I'll patiently wait to see more :)
@Eric: Yes! Give me a few days and I'll enable the choice to choose which language you are uploading for, so you can manage language inside the one comic and don't need to have different comics for each language :)
@Nimloth Just a suggestion: can we have alternate names for the other language versions of our comics? (For example, for localization purposes, the Spanish version of my comic is named "Corazón de piedra.")
@Nimloth My comics often have no words at all, but I'm still asked to pick a language. Would it be possible to add an option like none/no language/not applicable or something similar?
@Vanja unfortunately the system is not set up to allow no language. Everything from URL structure to how we select which release to display for order 1, 2, 3, etc, depends on it being there.@Nimloth My comics often have no words at all, but I'm still asked to pick a language. Would it be possible to add an option like none/no language/not applicable or something similar?
That said, it's also not a blocker if the comics are set as an origin language without text. I suggest you use English as default lang as that's the default lang for the website, and then just go about publishing content without language in the images :)
