Removing older titles causes links to break?
I ran into an...interesting issue this morning and I'm not sure there is a solution outside of changing the linking structure the site uses for releases.
I had an older release that I decided to remove which was release #13 I believe. When I removed it, all the releases afterwards dropped down a number which, of course, broke all the links I had from other sources. So my #16 was now #15, etc.
I'm not offering this so much as a bug requiring a solution, but I think it is good to be aware of as down the line having to rework links for possibly hundreds of titles could make one...grouchy.
@cantrell What sort of solutions do you think would be helpful? Changing the links helps the releases on the page itself and the links match to avoid confusion on the platform itself. I feel like it would be more confusing to have a link with "chapter 3" in it, to go to "Chapter 2" for example.
It's an interesting issue to consider. I'm curious if you have any possible ideas. I've noted it down anyway, thank you for letting us know about this!
That's a good question. Outside of completely changing the way each URL is generated for a release, I'm not sure.
For example, if you make it generate a unique code similar to YouTube, you lose the more human friendly URL. But in return, even if the system were to reorder the releases, if you link to "globalcomix.com/r=V56Fg3%gs2" the release will always be found because it's not based on dates or ascending number orders.
Like I said, it's just something I stumbled on and there may not be a viable solution. Time will tell if a better method can be developed.
