Tricks for standing out with the flood of new content?
Hello everyone,
With the flood of growth on this site over the last 6 months what tactics are people using to guide eyes to their comics? I only have two releases out there with a third on the way (slow development cycle), but I have no idea how to start standing out from the noise.
Hey there, my suggestion is to make sure you have a proper promotion schedule, as simply relying on being in the recent/updated/new feed isn't a good way to be seen.
Having a strong social media precense is pretty important for multiple reasons:
1. It allows you to maintain a following outside of platform just in case the worse happens or you want to move platforms. The reality is life is not predictable and it's good to have a following that isn't tied to only one place. By doing this, you'll create your own community that can follow you wherever you go.
2. Social media is better for reaching a larger about of people and "going viral". That won't happen here with how GC is structured, as least not in the same way Twitter, or Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, etc can. I know it's a lot of stuff to manage, but unfortunately when indie folks are well... indie you HAVE to wear many hats.
3. Tag GC on socials! I run a lot of our social media and I LOVE to see folks tagging us so that we can share, retweet, repost, whatever to promote our creators.
The way you'll "compete" for views is to do your own promotion campaigns, like the publishers do. Essentially, you are your own publisher, so you'll have to play by those "guidelines" as well if you want to succeed.
I have articles that I've written about getting started on socials that might be helpful for you (or other creators):
