Re: I built a webtoon/comic publishing platform — would love blunt feedback from actual creators
Yeah Hi.

Checked it out. The platform looks and works fine, but disappointed not to find any comics, just text stories. It would be good if you could find the time to showcase some comics so I could see how they run. Written novels aren't my gig. Good luck. Cheers.

Re: Interactive Panel reads
Hi kilpikonna, I'm not sure I'm the one to give advice on reader functionality, but I'll have a go:

1. Vertical scroll has no panel to panel (P2P) by default.
2. Not all comics have P2P, but where implemented do this:
a) Click anywhere on the center of the screen of an open comic.
b) Look and locate the settings icon, top right corner - it looks like a gear/cog wheel, click it.
c) A right sidebar of user settings will open. Towards the bottom locate the P2P on/off selector. Select P2P ON.
d) Close the sidebar, click continue to return to the comic.
Note: I'm told your settings preferences are kept in memory somewhere server/client, so you don't have to do it all the time, but that's not been my experience. Good luck. I hope that helps.

Re: Music in our comics?
Yes, I put music soundtracks on my comics on my own website. I run the comics as HTML and I have some other functions too. The music has an on/off toggle button if you don't want it. I choose music that I feel is suitable for the mood and pace of the comic. Fast or cool. Music definetly adds greatly to the user experience. The music runs as streaming MP3 as background music and loops until the comic is closed. It doesn't run synched to anything. I get free to use music from Audionautix.com ( https://audionautix.com ). A broad selection of their inhouse music is good for background and animation movies. YouTube also has a free music library. Might be some strings attached to YouTube - check carefully. Correctly chosen backing music enhances the user experience without a doubt. Thumbs up from me.

Re: looking for general feedback
Hi ENBILAG,

I checked out Episode 0. Things I noted: the intro art was spectacularly beautiful. That quality dropped off as the story unfolded. This sort of story doesn't grab me much, so I won't comment on that. Overall, I kinda liked it. Everyone's different, so there's no right or wrong way in art. I found things moved a bit too slowly for me. A great deal of white space between graphics. Some readers may love that. It's not my gig, but I reckon it's good work. Sorry, I don't have time to read more. Like I said, it's not my gig, so the story didn't drag me in to read more of it. I hope that helps. I hope you get good following. All the best.

Is there any point in making hi-qual graphics for vert scroll, phone user comics?
I create mostly high quality graphics for big screen users (1920 x 1080), but now I'm moving into vertical scroll phone user format - a bit. I'm wondering, is there any point in creating detailed hi-qual images? Phone screen users will never see that fine detail, so I'm thinking, what's the point? What do you guys do? Is rough and ready OK for phones? Honest question. Opinions appreciated.

Re: Characters you really related to
I'm from the old world, I'd go The Phantom! But then I don't think I can "relate" to him. I just like the comics. I don't want to have a relationship with him. Although Diana Palmer might be interesting... I'll consider.

Is there any way to "park" a previously released and published title without taking it off line?
I've published an Episode 1 of a comic. I wish to "park" it into a place that leaves it in situ, but is not active to readers on line. The reason is simple. I do not have the time to create/publish further episodes and update it at this time. I'm too busy. But I don't want to offend readers who might like it, so I'd like to take it off line for a while, not un-publish it, not un-release it, but just put it a place where it's not available to new readers for the moment. In a sort of not online place for a while.

Question: is that possible? If so, how do I do it? Replies welcomed.

Interactive Panel reads
I'm very interested in the use of the "panel to panel" function. Firstly I notice that GC pushes this functionality for phone users. I'm OK with that. Play the game. But! I've investigated some of the big player's productions and have seen some don't use it. To use it, or not to use it, that is the question.

I'm all for creating product for broad spectrum customers. Surely that's a good thing. Well maybe, I'm not sure.

This is my reservation. I create big screen graphics. I believe they're high quality. It's what I strive and work for. It takes a lot of time and I do it through love of my product. I'm proud of my big screen graphics. Viewing/reading on micro phone screens does not do my work any justice. They look like crap. Then I have to put frames on the text so phone users can read it. That's OK too. Except the "panel to panel" function is default and changing the settings for a reader with big screen is not obvious to the user. I don't want my big screen graphics being trashed and then users only being able to read the text without seeing it in context of a high quality graphic. The placing of text is not by accident.

This is not a whinge or bellyache. I'm interested to open discussion about the subject and in particular, why do some premier creators NOT use this feature as I have seen. I'm interested in general comments for discussion. Anyone please input.

Seeking advice about series releases with and without immersive reader frames
I am about to release a new series. It's been previously published on my own website. It's a big work in progress probably about 35 episodes of which I've created 9 so far over a few years. It's my major work. It's been created for big screen users with 1920 x 1080 format. I've tested the preview of the first episode without frames and it runs well here on GC.

Now here's my problem: I'm happy to put frames in for users with phone, mini screens, but I find that using frames when on a big screen is tiresome and somewhat annoying. I've looked at other creators who have done that. I also have issue with frames on big screens because they make dialogue sequential, which is not always required or desired on large screens. I like to compose some graphics with multiple characters where their dialogue is not necessarily sequential and can be viewed individually. Sort of like the user can find little bits and pieces of subcontext dialogue if they look around a big scene. I use it often for humor, backstory and asides sometimes. I'm also sympathetic to users with tiny screens and am happy to do the frames to get a broader reach to users.

I'm thinking I will do two separate series with identical graphics for 1) no frames for big screen users and 2) all frames for small screen users. But I fear that might get a bit confusing for readers and your indexing. I'll also have to create separate covers. I don't want to change the title of the release for one or the other but indicate screen size somehow.

So advice required, what's best for GC? Are two separate series of the same comic acceptable to GC? Any other thoughts you might have.

Ideally, it would be good if the user could enable/disable frames as they required at run time on their client device. Just a thought. Thanks for a great platform. Regards.

Kate George California Episode 1
Just released the first of about 5 episodes of this Comedy Noir short story. This is a very different sort of comic compared to about 95% of all the comics on this site. It's more like an adult TV drama. It's the first time I've created a vertical scroll comic, intentionally catering to phone users. A very different experience for me. An interesting exercise. Very different to working on big screen horizontal layouts. This release probably won't appeal to many on here, but check it out please, have a look. I hope you get a few laughs - that's the intention. All feedback is always valuable, even if it's not kind.

Seeking feedback on Private URL Preview
Hi all, I'm hoping I can get some feedback specifically on font sizes and graphic spacing used in webcomics.

Here's the Private URL Preview (I hope) -

https://globalcomix.com/c/kate-george-california-test-3/chapters/en/1/1?key=1e15e54f-e6e2-4df5-a90f-f36773fd2ece

Intro: I'm not new to comics and have worked exclusively on large screen formats for big screen PCs and laptops. I'm entering the small screen scrolling webcomics for the first time. I have tested the Preview on phone device emulations on my browser - results OK. But I don't trust the emulation. I'm chasing feedback of actual experiences from people reading the Preview with real phone screens. Seeking feedback as follows:

1. Font size. Are the fonts used in the preview readable on your phone screen? I'd like to make them smaller if I can. I don't want to go bigger. The bubble font used is 36 pt. If possible, I'd like to go smaller, say 32 -28 pt.

2. Graphic spacing. In this Preview test, I've intentionally placed the graphics as close to each other as I dare to experiment. I'd like to space them with more "air" between them to have a less cluttered feel, but I don't know what phone users are used to when reading webcomics. I have studied some of the popular comics on here and notice some creators use huge spaces between graphics. Is this a sort of requirement for phones, or is it creator style only.

That's about it. I'm not seeking feedback on content, but if you wish to, I'm happy to receive any. Please feel free.

Thanks in anticipation. Regards all.

Seeking help on tests
Hi all, newbie here, I'm wondering if there's any way to get feedback on Preview status of a new series I'm doing tests on for graphic and font sizes?

I've got the URL of the preview I'm testing and it works for me, even if I logout, quit and then login later.

Here's the URL: https://globalcomix.com/c/kate-george-california-test-2/chapters/en/1/1https://globalcomix.com/c/kate-george-california-test-2/chapters/en/1/1

If that works for somone else, I'll post it up in the Feedback Wanted forum.

Failing all the above, is there any way I can get feedback off tests WITHOUT publishing them? I don't want the thing to go live just as a test before I've gotten feedback about its readablity, etc. Advice deeply appreciated. Anyone? Cheers!
