Interactive Panel reads

I'm very interested in the use of the "panel to panel" function. Firstly I notice that GC pushes this functionality for phone users. I'm OK with that. Play the game. But! I've investigated some of the big player's productions and have seen some don't use it. To use it, or not to use it, that is the question.

I'm all for creating product for broad spectrum customers. Surely that's a good thing. Well maybe, I'm not sure.

This is my reservation. I create big screen graphics. I believe they're high quality. It's what I strive and work for. It takes a lot of time and I do it through love of my product. I'm proud of my big screen graphics. Viewing/reading on micro phone screens does not do my work any justice. They look like crap. Then I have to put frames on the text so phone users can read it. That's OK too. Except the "panel to panel" function is default and changing the settings for a reader with big screen is not obvious to the user. I don't want my big screen graphics being trashed and then users only being able to read the text without seeing it in context of a high quality graphic. The placing of text is not by accident.

This is not a whinge or bellyache. I'm interested to open discussion about the subject and in particular, why do some premier creators NOT use this feature as I have seen. I'm interested in general comments for discussion. Anyone please input.

as a reader that uses the phone a lot, i prefer a million times to read a comic that has the Panel to Panel on their comics.
i can zoom in and out from others that don't, but it disrupts the flow and starts to be boring and takes me out of the story.
Basically, i enjoyed the stories that have panels to panels more because they get me engaged in it.

Some may not even be aware of the feature. Or perhaps many of the larger labels simply don't feel it's worth the effort for thousands of titles. I set up my pages with panels but my readership is mostly desktop so it's probably kind of a waste.

I have seen several creators use the feature in interesting ways. They treat it more like a movie camera guiding a reader through each scene. If done correctly, it can work especially if you're wanting to hide a big reveal until the end of a page.

I thank the above for their comments. Like I said, I appreciate the situation and am sympathetic to the issues. Unfortunately, today it's a fact of life that the internet has been divided among users. Standard W3C Internet specs and phone applications. That's life, tough turkey. Get over it. In my own case, by analytics I'm getting users 57% micro screen devices and 43% normal users. I'm grateful for both and hence why I do use the panel read function.

I guess in the reality of the day I have to get used to the idea that a lot of my fine inking on character's hands, facial features, eyelashes and eyeball highlights, stuff like that, which takes a long time is trashed and never seen or appreciated by phone readers. If that's 57% of my audience, then so be it. I guess they're getting something out of my work other than my art. I thank them all for their following. My numbers aren't bad. Much better than I'd ever hoped for.

I have now incorporated a page up-front in each release that gives big screen users instructions on how to disable the panel reads, which in my opinion is not intuitively findable without explicit instructions. That's the best I can do for now. I'll continue to work at my graphics in fine detail to maintain consistency of my product. Who knows, one day I might publish in print so the quality is already there.

Thanks for replies @Nimesh and @cmc. Regards.
