On updating chapters and PNGs

So, I really want to post my new webcomic here exclusively, as this seems to be the site with the best, least complicated format I've seen, especially for mobile, but I'll be updating page by page, not chapter by chapter. When can I expect to update that way? I posted a sample of my comic to Reddit less than a week ago and was met with positive feedback and much anticipation for when it goes live. I want to be able to post the first pages of the comic before interest dies down.

Also, will we be able to publish PNG pages? I have no problem uploading in PDF, but it's more of a hassle to convert from a MediBang file to PNG to PDF.

Hi @IvyIsNotDead

You can upload PNGs, JPGs, ZIPs with multiple images, CBR/CBZ/EPub (we will extract the images server side and add them to your releases). We're actually also working on drag-and-drop upload for releases, along with better client-side extraction/processing of archives to speed the process up!

As for updating page by page -- a release is what you want. A release can have one or many pages! In your case, it will be a release with one page, and reading transitions smoothly from page in release to page in release automatically.

Does this answer your questions?

Let me know!

When I try to upload a PNG, it doesn't appear on my files, but the PDFs do.

As for the page by page thing, a release is like a chapter, right? If I publish each page as a new release, will it show each page as if it were a separate chapter? It says the ability to update and add new pages to an already published release is coming soon.

It's like a chapter, but not entirely. The benefit of having a new release per "issue" is that people get alerted to new releases from creators they follow. It also shows up fresh in your user home feed :)

A release can have page count of 1.

Weird that PNG isn't working? Could you screenshot the error message you're getting? PS: moving this thread to the bug reports forum :)

FYI: I've fixed the processing for your first release upload. Looks like it had gotten stuck. If you reload your comic admin panel it should show both releases with pages in it now!

PS I'm wondering -- is the problem you're having that you're trying to add multiple pages to a single release and then publish? If so, you can just ZIP/RAR up an archive of all your PNG/JPG images and upload that.

I managed to get it right now. When I was uploading the files, I had the search option on "All supported file types". When I changed it to "All files", the PNG images showed up.

Yes, adding multiple pages to a single release is what I want to do! The only thing is, I'm going to be uploading the pages as I finish them, so every update, I'm going to have to delete and then re-publish the ZIP file with the new added pages. I could also just publish each page as a release and then compile them all into the ZIP file once the chapter is done.

Ahh I get it now!

if you hold off a little, I'll get our beta version of "adding pages to a release" out in a working form for you this weekend :)

That's excellent news! Thank you for all the support! :D

@IvyIsNotDead I've released the beta version of our drag-and-drop page uploader just now, just because you asked :)

Please bear with us if it has some bugs or lacks "heavy styling" ;-)

You should now be able to drag any PNG or JPG image onto your release and add them continuously. Please let me know if you experience any issues with this.

I tested it and it all works perfectly! The only tiny issue was that when I forgot to write the chapter title and summery, the save button disappeared, so when I filled everything in, I had to refresh the page and write it all over again. Other than that, everything from the drag-and-drop to the upload time was smooth.

That's awesome!

FYI -- you'll need to publish a release for others to read them - in case that wasn't already evident :-)

Can't wait to see what you're creating!

Yep, I know! Just finishing up some pages before I publish c:
