How Invested Are You In GlobalComix?

GC  has seen a big wave of new users which is always great.  But I'm curious, as a reader...

1) Are you financially invested in the GC system yet? (Bought comics / credits / subs)
2) If you aren't, do you plan on doing it soon?
3) If not, why not?
4) If a series that was previously free begins to charge for future updates, will that influence your decision to continue reading it?

EDIT:

5) Do you create comics or just read them?

And in the interest of full disclosure, I'll start my answering my own questions.

1) Not yet.

2) Very likely.  I'm still new to the platform and watching but I'm very encouraged by what I'm seeing so far.  My support will most likely be more in the form of paying for creator services than actual comic subs / credits but I'm looking forward to seeing what the platform brings.

3) N/A

4) I'll support the content if I'm enjoying it.  I won't abandon a series simply out of spite if a paywall appears.

5) Creator

Jumping in to follow - I'm very curious to hear everyone's thoughts here. This is something we've discussed internally a lot, so any feedback is appreciated!

1. Not yet, still too focused on updating to have read much yet.
2. Once my readership stabilizes, and I maybe make enough donations to invest back in, yes. Especially Creator Pro.
3. ^
4. It will influence me. I'll have to decide how much I like the series and how much the updates are worth to me!

Not financially invested yet, my hope is to get to a place where I can pay for subscriptions for comics I enjoy. I can’t read as much as I want to because if creating content but I have a bunch of favs. Right now Free is a big draw for me. In turn as a creator I provide free content for my current comic. I will eventually have future comics that are paid but not until I build my audience.

I am a subscriber. I'm invested there... I'm also invested in the vision of Globalcomix. I am purposefully holding content back in anticipation of the mobile app. (Well... that and a couple of other reasons.)
But I am wanting to take a moment to rant about my only real concern about GC... which kind of rubs elbows with this topic.
The Comic Book Yeti did a poll on twitter not that long ago. It was a survey into their reader base about how many of them were comic book creators, and how many were comic book readers/enthusiasts. While I don't remember the exact results, the majority of the people that answered the poll were creators. Much of their views are then creators reading about other creators. Somewhat of an echo chamber.
As an indie creator I have noticed these creator echo chambers before. If I try to promote a product on my Twitter, for example, I am only reaching other creators. If I promote on the Globalcomix discord... I am only promoting to other creators. While I am not de-valuing the importance of building a community... I have found other creators not to be the best of buyers and/or financial support.
Globalcomix has done a magnificent job at creating a product that works for creators. The next HUGE question for them though is... can they bring in the readers? Obviously a fair share of the responsibility falls on the creators as we have to give them something to promote and sell.
Globalcomix has already aced the exam on building a creator friendly platform. Now we must figure out how to make it a reader friendly platform with titles that draw outside people in. (I'm saying all of this with no inside info on the reader statistics of GC lol.)
So... an open question... how do we bring viewers in? Not for just my comic, or just someone else's... how do we bring people to the hub?

@BaronVonDC Some very valid points and a lot of what I worry about as well (this also isn't my first rodeo).

The launch of the app will be an interesting point to watch. Usually one of the first questions I hear is, "Does it have an app?". An app will reduce the burden of entry to the point that a lot of people may try it just to see what it's about.

I'll have to think about the "how" for a bit but I can say it'll require some massive outside-the-box thinking on our parts.

I have subbed but I haven't bought anything. My work/home life doesn't leave me with much free time but I keep meaning to.
I have found enough content that I would subscribe but I really don't like monthly payments as financial situations can change at any moment. I would do a one time when I have the chance.
Yes I still buy regular comics and I spent money on comixology before it imploded so buy on this platform isn't a stretch.
I got an email about a free comic called Scavengers and tried it out and loved it so I hung around. I think free comics always have a place but creators deserve to get paid.
I hope to have more time to explore the platform soon.

@Teej So you'd probably be a good candidate for creators who have the support (donate) button active then. Are there any that you've donated to yet?

Teej posted Jun 29, 2022

No I have just followed someone for the first time last week. Like I said when I get more time with the platform I will probably donthese things. It's like band camp. If I repeatedly listen/read a creators work then I do try and support it. I buy albums to support indie musicians so comics would be the same. IMO

@Teej welcome to GC! If you encounter stuff that you have ideas for improving, don’t hesitate to use our suggestions forum :-)

@Teej Ah, gotcha.

Teej posted Jun 30, 2022

I followed global comix on twitter when they mysteriously posted😉 during one of the comixology complaint threads. I had never heard of it which is weird then some of the AWA creators started posting about it. So here I am.

We're happy to have you here! Thank you for supporting the creators you enjoy reading. :)

1. Not yet, but I'm very new to the site and still exploring the catalogue.
2. If I find a paid comic that I like, sure! :D As of now, I'm mostly planning to just buy individual comics rather than go for a monthly subscription, though, as I'm already subscribed to a bunch of other online services and can't afford to pay for too many at once. However, should I get invested in multiple comics on GC, I might definitely consider subscribing :D
3. N/A
4. If I like the series, yep, I'd continue to support it :) might take me a little longer before I can afford to unlock all episodes, but I like to support fellow creators whenever possible.

Added another question to help with the feedback. Let me know if you're a creator or reader.

solidhalon posted Jun 30, 2022

1) Yes, I'm a gold member. I have also bought comics.
4) Not really. I understand that creators have to make money to pay their artists and eat.
5) I am not a creator, just a reader.

I think the asking price is really good and worth every penny. For $8 I have access to hundred if not thousands of comics. If I ever cancel my sub it won't be for the lack of content, but probably because of financial reasons or lack of time(yes, if I'm not using it, why I'm paying for it, just like netflix -_-).

Also, I want to see this platform grow. Rather than to complain about other platforms I will support one that it's doing what I want as a customer.

Yes, I am invested in GlobalComix

1. I've read the comic book content available on GlobalComix
2. I am working with a team of creators, working on a comic book

I believe that GlobalComix is the future of comic book reading, publishing and uploading, it's worth the upload and publishing per penny, I have access to the comic book directory, and a part their Discord fam, I would also like to say that the publisher's webpage description is worth the looking thoroughly, for anyone who is willing to have their content on GlobalComix will be of real interest to up and coming publishers and creators, so, yeah, I am truly invested in GlobalComix, and I extend this invitation to my team members

1) Are you financially invested in the GC system yet? (Bought comics / credits / subs)
i am still ridiculously new here (so new that this is my first post in the forums lol). i haven't even gotten a chance to even finish uploading my backlog of comics. i also work full time aside from comic stuff and try and split my time between several sites so unfortunately i haven't had a chance to really explore much of this site yet.

2) If you aren't, do you plan on doing it soon?
i might, it's just very dependent on time, cost and content at this point.

3) If not, why not?
aside from not being in the best state financially myself, i find the relationship between art and money to be very strange. i'm usually all for supporting my fellow artists in any way i can, especially when it comes to shilling stuff i love to my friends - i feel like a lot of people unfortunately lose themselves and their purpose in creation when money enters the picture. artists and creators deserve to be compensated but there comes a time where you're no longer making art but making a product. it feels very self-effacing and corporate. i think i'd likely be willing to pay to an extent is basically what i'm saying.

4) If a series that was previously free begins to charge for future updates, will that influence your decision to continue reading it?
i think if there was forewarning that the content would eventually become paid, i would at that point make a decision based on my financial state. if the decision was just thrust randomly without any kind of discussion with readers, i would probably stop reading out of principle because it comes off as kind of underhanded in my opinion.

5) Do you create comics or just read them?
both.
