Confused about follow button
On artist pages, the button on the left that says "Follow".
It has a "plus-sign" icon on the left and lists the user's number of followers(?) in parenthesis on the right. This indicates to me that if I click the plus sign it'll display a drop-down of the user's followers. Instead, clicking it adds me as a follower. It's just an unexpected behavior.
Also, why can't I follow you, Nimloth? And why do I have a "user" profile and a separate "artist" profile? What's the difference?
You can't follow me because I don't have an artist profile yet (you can only follow comic creators on site atm).
We made a distinct choice to separate the two so that someone can publish and speak officially for their brand, and also have a private profile where they can act as any other user without there being a direct relationship between the brand and the person reading their own stuff.
This separation allows for better privacy for those who publish but want to remain anonymous as to their regular user browsing habits :)
I'm going to bring Lexflex here for the ux confusion with regards to the follow button as this is his domain :)
Thanks for using the site and for taking time to share your feedback!
As far as the icon go, I'm trying to understand if it's the choice of a + sign that's confusing, or the very fact that you can "follow yourself as an artist"? Or is it the + sign combined with the number in parenthesis?
My gut feeling is it would help a lot just removing the number in parenthesis on the button? That way you at least don't expect any sort of dropdown or list? What do you think?
Hi!
Sorry, those were two unrelated issues I put in the same comment.
The "follow yourself" issue was just confusing to me. I wasn't sure why I had two separate profiles I could switch between even though I only signed up for one account.
The follow button confused me because the plus-sign indicates to me that the section is going to expand to show me more information. That assumption was enhanced by the number in parenthesis, which indicated there was more information to show.
Why not just have a simple button that says "follow" a la Twitter or Tumblr?
These are just my personal impressions. Take them with however many grains of salt you want :)
