Re: GlobalComix's New Homepage Opinions + Suggestions (Check Topic for Updates)
Update - DEC-22-2024: The homepage for this month and next year look fantastic! (https://i.postimg.cc/CdTsq4bq/Screenshot-2024-12-22-at-19-38-05-Read-Publish-Comics-Online-Global-Comix.png)

I just returned to GlobalComix and I'm positively speechless; it lead new users to the site for sure! Maybe if the forums and news pages are consistent with the new homepage, such as maybe adding a dark and a light mode, it would be even more great.

Keep up the good work! Oh, and Merry Christmas!

GlobalComix's New Homepage Opinions + Suggestions (Check Topic for Updates)
So, I just saw the new homepage for this website...

EDIT - DEC-22-2024
: The page image below this text is for the 2023 brief redesign. Update for the late 2024 and early 2025 webpage is below, if you just scroll down this topic.

Looks decent! But I kinda miss the old webpage, below.

I'm guessing the old webpage is for when you sign in; it's either that, new homepage's in beta or I need to clear my browsers' cache, which I'm fine with.

I guess if the new website will become permanent, I do have a few suggestions.

- Have the orange Google Play "Get the App" button below the Apple "Get the App" button. I know the buttons appear in the "Read digital comics like never before!" section of the homepage, but the top of the webpage is where the two buttons need to appear.

- Continue to have sections of comics/graphic novels and creators available like in the old webpage.

- The lowercase "f"s in the new homepage (like in the heading "Built to be fair and open") seem to look off-putting. It's more of my minor nitpick of the font type used. I can see the web designer trying to be creative with this.

Guess that's all from me. If I'm wrong about something or I need to add some stuff, I can let you users know, or vice versa.

Re: Fun Market Insights: Is the comic industry self-sustainable?
@Karumtoo-Rexo: That's an interesting point! But if a series/movie/game can't continue on the big or small screen and is continued through comics only, wouldn't that be a downgrade of sorts, especially in terms of revenue? Although, I think that could depend on the notoriety of the title.

Yep, it depends on disreputable or high-quality a series is. I've read about how the Gargoyles comics had positive reception a decade after the show ended - that's a high quality example.
Disreputable example I can't find.

(But like others have typed in, the writing would have to be good in order for it to be a good medium.)

Re: Fun Market Insights: Is the comic industry self-sustainable?
Add the gaming industry in general and you got it.
I... guess the two industries are interconnected?

Yes, there are comics (don't forget books) that later get adapted into multimedia projects/franchises , like MARVEL and DC.

But at the same time, the projects that can't continue through TV, movies and games, maybe projects explaining separate adventures get turned into comics - like Regular Show, Adventure Time, the Toonami T.I.Es, Sly Cooper, Geronimo Stilton and Marc Brown's Arthur. The last two examples didn't start from comics but they still have TV series adaptations that have spin-off adventures.

It probably goes this way vice versa but I can't find examples of those.

This is interesting to think about, because a comic can be like a pilot/test run project to see what you're going for in a multimedia franchise.

Re: Mario Movie Discussion [Spoilers ahead]
((toothy grin))

They're already planning a Donkey Kong and/or a Luigi's Mansion movie.

In regards to the end of the movie, they're either going to pull in more Mario World, Sunshine, or Galaxy series references! Note the Yoshi egg at the post-credits scene!

Re: Are there any comics, manga, movies or shows that you are looking forward to in 2023?
↑ @ArtCrumbs - Yeah, I saw the movie (with family)!
It was amazing! Nintendo and Illumination really outdid themselves with this one.

When it comes out on streaming, it'll be awesome the second time!

Let's see how people react to the Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken movie when it comes out. ((raised eyebrow with smirk))

...
I forgot to add that there's also Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that's coming out. I like the recent Sony Animated Spider-Man movies for it's animation style. Heck, even Puss in Boots: The Last Wish used it (no spoilers here on that front)!

Now, I'm not too fond of superheroes unless they're cheesy or cartoony enough, but this here is one of those few exceptions.

It's a strong bet that nearly everyone's talking about The Super Mario Bros. Movie - and I don't blame them. This is a[n animated] movie I want to see in the next 2 months (APR-07 in my country).

That's about it so far.

Re: Personal thoughts on illustrated novels in comic spaces?
I’m not really a novel reader, unless the novels have pictures inside them. I feel like walls of text without any pictures make it hard to process scenes, you’d have to process all the imagery yourself using your brain - maybe if I’ve read it in chunks and drew a few scribbles about any scene, it could work; it [all really] depends on what I’m interested in.

As for novels with comic or storybook-like concepts, I’m in full support of that (not a promotion, but I’m [trying to think of] producing one myself with two/three cuts available).

I don’t necessarily think novels are thought of ‘bad’ in comic spaces, though I was told that readership could slump down whenever readers reach a certain chapter/page. There are creators (like those on Tapas) that either come up with a novel version of a story first and then a comic or the other way around. Heck, there are {some} people that just like {reading} novels in general.

I think experimenting on what to include inside [an illustrated novel/storybook] is a start. My example’s not general but I’m adding colored text in the novel, like in those Geronimo Stilton books (not going overboard with it) – that will be in the ‘Wacky Cut’ of my project.

How do you pronounce your characters' names?
Gonna admit this; I make this thread a tradition whenever I'm new on a webcomic site's forum or whatnot since OCT-16-2019 - the day I posted this on Tapas Forum.
If you saw me and a thread like this on another [webcomic site's] forum, you'd probably know what it's about already based on the title. ((side toothy grin))

But if you're not familiar... people seem to be confused on how my one of my character's name is pronounced. If your characters' first and last names are normal, that's fine; though, what if they're so different, they're hard to pronounce?
My robot sheriff character will teach his pronunciation first.

Adding option for RSS feeds?
Other sites such as The Duck Webcomics and ComicFury have provided options for users to subscribe to webcomics through RSS feeds.

Let's say you're signed out of GlobalComix and you want to either still catch up on new pages without signing in, or you want to check out that comic first (so you won't lose that link), and decide whether not you'll be signing into GC, so that you can subscribe here and post comments for real.

Will there be any plans to include the RSS feed option?

Posting different versions of "comics"?
Hello, I would like to know if there are different ways of posting versions of comics.

Do I have to make separate versions of comics and label them differently?

Or is there a dropdown menu I can customize when making different versions of comics?

Here're the doodles I constructed below for example:

To a normal reader, they see an orange button that says that two cuts/versions of my illustrated novel are available - the "wacky" and "normal" versions, respectively. When clicked, the orange button reveals a dropdown menu.
Right now, the user has selected the Wacky Version [in grey] to see what its like (that's Version 1). The version is labeled on the banner title, and the cover art is posted.

Now, for this one. The Normal version (Version 2) is selected in grey. The banner title and the posted cover art is different (note the black background, different logo + text below it that says "Normal Version").

If anything still needs explaining, please let me know.
