Each week, KeepingitGeekly and ArtCrumbs have picked out four titles that they feel deserve more reads! In our line-up this week, we've got one comic from each category to give you a varied list of must-reads for your weekend!

  • Comic - Yoobies: Cursed teens trying to be heroes that nobody wants them to be. Prove 'em wrong, kids!
  • Graphic Novel - Project Parasomnia: Entering the minds of terrified patients and fighting their nightmares.
  • Manga - Diamond City Mega Dive: Catch a Killer with a Manga scifi twist and beautiful panel art.
  • Webcomic - The Moon and Me: A young girl in a strange lunar dimension discovers her new life, and new friends!

Now that we've met our four fresh picks, let's dig into each of them! KeepingitGeekly and ArtCrumbs will provide comments about the comic and why you should read it too!

1. Yoobies, 16 pages - Published by Odyssey Comics, (cc/ @odysseycomics)

In a world much like our own, 5% of America’s population are meta-humans cursed with useless and ludicrous powers. There is no cure, and there is no sympathy for any who has befallen this fate. Instead, society stigmatized those newly branded “Y-Gener’s”, treating the collective group as jokes with no real worth. It's here, amongst the prejudice and bias, that a teen super-team steps up to the plate — The Yoobies! Ready to show the world what they are really made of, that every person has worth, and that no labels can hold them back from being heroes!

Story and Art by Odyssey Comics

Writer - Nathaniel Villanueva
Artist - Raphael Dantas
Colors & Letters - Marcus McNeal

Comments from @KeepingitGeekly:

In a World where 5% of America’s population are meta-humans, you would think citizens would be overjoyed. This sadly isn’t the case. These meta-humans don’t have super abilities that you would normally conceive of, instead they are cursed with useless and ludicrous power.

I really loved Dantas’ pencils and felt that McNeal’s colors complimented them well, almost feeling like a nod to the Silver Age. We begin with our first of the Yoobie team, Peter Lane who is a Speedster that can only run for so long before passing out. One tardy slip later and we are immersed within a High School and how Y-Gener’s are treated. Villanueva hit it out of the park with the script, creating meta-humans with powers that aren’t as great as you would imagine and tying in prejudice and bias against them created a captivating read!

2. Project Parasomnia, 15 pages - Published by Cyaboron, (cc/ @Cyaboron)

When the Lakeside orphanage got turned into a hospital and asylum for the severely phobic, Kali, Edgar, Mara and Syren got assigned as the “Nightmare Kids”. It’s their task to enter the minds of patients and take it up against their phobias, while also dealing with their own demons.

Story and Art by Cyaboron

Creator - Cas Lofthus

Comments from @KeepingitGeekly:

It’s a Monday at the Lakeside Hospital Asylum for the severely phobic and ex-orphanrium and you know what that means…Monday Meat. We follow Kali, Edgar, Mara and Syren as they bite..or should I say operate their way on rubbery and slimy chicken. Creator Lofthus’ does a phenomenal job with character designs and illustration. I really enjoyed digging into each panel and being immersed within how colorful this comic is.

Mara has a nice surprise which just might save the day!

3. Diamond City Mega Dive, 58 pages - Published by Diamond city comics, (cc/ @akit144)

Dive into Diamond City and join Akira and Biggz on their mission to capture the serpent slayer. How will they find this brutal killer in a city over run with crime. Dive in to find out!

Story and Art by Diamond city comics

Created by Aki T.

Comments from @ArtCrumbs:

What I loved the most about Diamond City was the rough artwork, but the ease of the flow. Clean, sometimes simple artwork tends to dominate what we think of as manga. This manga has a Dorohedoro feel with a scifi-serial killer twist. It has a lot of energy, is loose and somewhat sketchy, but feels just right for the tone of this manga.

Deep in the crime ridden city, there's an arcade, where we meet Akira and his friend Biggz. Akira runs an arcade, but is on the lookout for "The Serpent Slayer". It's not yet 100% clear what the connection is, but once there is a murder, what IS clear is how brutal this killer is. We then meet Max, a kid at an orphanage with connections to Akira and Biggz, but we don't get to dwell on that long. Some mysterious people interrupt their dinner, and this time, they might not escape!

Great work so far! I love the style, love the background work, it's goregous. Keep it up and I look forward to the next update, Akit!

4. The Moon and Me, 4 pages - Published by ELIOLI, (cc/ @ELIOLI)

Follow the journey of a young girl traveling through a surreal, lunar dimension as she learns about her new surroundings, and the strange moon people she encounters...all while navigating the changes within herself!

Story and Art by ELIOLI

Created by Elena and Olivia Ceballos

Comments from @ArtCrumbs:

What a wonderful world, at least on the surface! We meet a young girl, struggling to complete her tasks, whatever they may be. She's fearful but curious and talks about what she knows of her world so far. It's absolutely beautiful, everything glows in this strange lunar world. I could just stare at all the small details.

We are then abruptly interrupted, but I won't spoil too much! The art alone is well worth the exploration of this comic. I can't wait to learn more, especially get to possibly meet these adorable characters on the cover? I wonder if she has a name, and how did she get there? No other beings seem to be like her, so I am 100% glued to this one once there are more updates.

Fantastical work, ELIOLI, I love this so much, and it was a joy to read so far! I see from your social media there is so much more to this series, and I'm absolutely thrilled to see it on GlobalComix. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
