New Kid in the Block!! Mind to share your comment?

Greetings, everyone.

As the title stated, I am new to this community, and also, I am new to this manga/comic world. It is my first attempt at drawing, illustrating, and publishing a digital copy of my work.
I am originally a novel writer and amateur level writer, to be precise. But due to encouragement and my curiosity to learn how to bring out the character of my story. I have decided to illustrate and bring out the story through comic art. Let me know what you think, or if you want me to get to your comic too, I’ll be glad to do so.

Hi! I think it’s off to a good start. Your artwork is clear and easy to follow. My only suggestion for now is to cut down on the walls of text. Manga is at its best when the text is succinct as possible, and I found myself skimming a lot.

Thanks a lot, and apology for the late reply. I'm glad to receive positive feedback on my first comic creation.

good job, maybe I would consider another font the text, the one that I use is anime ace

I agree with most of the comments (anime ace is a great and industry standard font!).

One thing I will say, is that for comics written in english with the intended audience being english-speaking, it doesn't make much sense to follow the japanese standard of reading right to left. The reason manga does this is because the japanese language (kanji, hiragana, etc) are written right to left. English is written left to right.

It's always good to keep in mind who your target audience is, and what will make your comic flow the smoothest. The current layout could easily put off potential readers.

@CandiedCotton and @finalrealms

I'm going to both agree and disagree about the "don't make right to left manga for English speakers" bit and I'll explain why.

The manga market is currently out-selling western comics in the US, one of the largest comics markets. The last two years in a row, Manga has outsold comics by volume and revenue. So, by that thought, there is a HUGE market for English speakers that read manga and are accustomed to reading right to left. And that's JUST counting the USA. Lots of other countries have English speakers, so yeah, that's not really a good reason to say not to use RtL as a format.

Additionally, a handful of the top series on GC for 2022 were Right to Left (one of them, my own, Godsbane). Out of over 4000 comics, they performed some of the best. That's quite significant proof there is a desire to read that format here.

Now, where I WILL agree with you is audience. You need to be targeting THAT audience with your manga. It wouldn't necessarily be a good marketing practice to target "everyone" as not everyone is used to reading in that format. You'll need to figure how to target the people interested in, comfortable with, or curious/willing to try Right to Left. It is a smaller group of people in terms of the vast entirety of the internet, but it's not impossible to work with.

Manga as an industry is getting a real boom right now, alongside vertical comics/webtoons, which were still rather niche just 10-15 years ago. Heck, Right to Left printed manga wasn't really in the US 20 years ago! I remember getting insanely frustrated talking to my local book store because a right to left version of InuYasha in English didn't exist yet! But look at it the market now! lol

It's also important to note that a lot of Japanese manga doesn't even stick to the right to left. A fair amount of it, including doujinshi, are left to right. There are no rules in indie comics and indie manga. As long as you understand you'll need to make sure you hit your target audience, and know who those people are / or how to find out who they are, you can succeed.
