RA NO TABI: FIRE KING begins before RA NO TABI: THE STREETS, when Re’s stolen Egyptian rocket misses Cape Town and throws him into Johannesburg, nearly 1,000 kilometres from home. He has survived impossible roads, but the one destination that matters remains Deeba and BooBoo. With the day moon overhead, a red star watching and Jozi roaring around him, Re lands in Soweto with cash, confidence, a black mask and absolutely no local plan. Then Mr Kaka arrives in a beat-up silver C-Class benz. He is a tour guide, philosopher, hustler and proud inventor of the “premium” charge. What should be a direct journey south becomes an outrageous introduction to African heat, township energy, road animals, expensive habits and a city that refuses to let Re pass through quietly. Touch Down in Africa is a colourful action-comedy about a father stranded far from the people he loves, learning that the road home may begin by understanding where he has landed. It launches the FIRE KING origin with fourth-wall Heka, anime spectacle, sharp Jozi humour and the first sparks of the hero Re will become.
