Learn To Draw

Re: Anybody have any suggestions for art websites/apps to use?
Gotta say, Clip Studio Paint is worth the investment of time and money if you're serious about having a comics career. It transformed my work and led to me working as a cartoonist full-time. https://www.clipstudio.net/en

Many creatives who are tired of Adobe love Affinity's suite -- very powerful, one-time purchase, reasonably priced programs for photos, illustration, and page design. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us

If you just want to draw for fun, there are lots of great, inexpensive options like:
- PhotoPea, which is basically "free, web-based Photoshop" - https://www.photopea.com
- Procreate, which lots of comics folk love; only for iThings, though - https://procreate.com
- PaintTool SAI - https://www.systemax.jp/en/sai
- Gimp - https://www.gimp.org
- Krita - https://krita.org/en
- MediaBang Paint - https://medibangpaint.com/en
- ArtRage - https://www.artrage.com
- Ibis Paint - https://ibispaint.com
- AutoDesk Sketchbook - https://www.sketchbook.com

All that said, I still love going back to markers, watercolours, and coloured pencils to do my diary comix. There's a lot to be said for getting comfortable with drawing before going into the labyrinth of software, which is only as good as what you put into it -- and the more "you" you can be, the better your tools will support your artistic ambitions.

Sticky Frame Tool
I just uploaded all of my comic to the site yesterday -- and, first, I have to say thank you to the developers for making that such a smooth and easy process!

(I'd tried *cough* the other sites first before finding GlobalComix, and it felt like converting my printed comic book to their format was going to be like a second -- unpaid -- job.)

One thing I found, though, when defining the frames for my comic, is that it was a bit of a nuisance to have to keep reselecting the frame tool after every single frame. (My comic is about 80 pages long, with an average of 6 panels per page, which meant having to re-click that button 48,000 times. My math may be off.)

It'd be great if that could somehow stay active until clicking a "Done" or "Finished Editing Frames" button.

Thanks!

Re: I'd like to make friends.
Hello. Comics artist and gayer here :)

I hear you about wading in slowly. I've posted my comic on this site, but I don't do social media at all because the negativity is just too disruptive to my daily and creative lives.

Likewise with Discord: I'm lucky to have a comics club here in my hometown, and we communicate via Discord, but as much as I'd like to connect with fellow creatives, I'm wary of "drinking from the firehose" of a large online community.

So thanks for starting this thread; it's a nice, easy first step.

Hello, friends.

Re: I'm New To This Platform, Is It Worth It?
I just joined GlobalComix after starting to post my work on WebToon and Tapas, then reading distressing stories about their bad business practices (mostly WebToon).

It was also taking a helluva long time to convert my comic to the webcomic format -- a whole different medium, when I'd designed it for print. When I realized how smooth and easy the posting process was here, with a focus on panels (which is how I'm accustomed to thinking about comix), I deleted my accounts on the other two sites and uploaded everything here. I have a job; I can't be spending forever doing that work for somebody else's site.

And instead of this being a side project that was going to take months, I got it done in a couple of hours. What's not to love about that? Plus the developers of GlobalComix seem to genuinely care about their community of creators, so I can feel good about belonging to that.

Nice to meet you all!
