April Feature #2: An Unwritten Future

Welcome to April feature #2! Whether near or far into the future, cyberpunk stories are all about lives being altered -- quite literally -- by technology. But there's always more to that story, because beneath the machine there's always a human still in charge.

We've selected five great comics that fall into that genre for you to check out in today's feature. As science fiction author Bruce Sterling says, the future is unwritten -- but these stories have a lot to say about where the world could be headed.

Palomar City is an overpopulated, tightly-packed, American mega-city. The stories in this near-future sci-fi world rocket from the dangerous, high-octane lifestyle of the Gatecrashers, to the back-stabbing politics of city hall, from behind the doors of Palomar General, the busiest public emergency room in the world, to the illicit wetware markets of the streets.

In the year 2055, Detroit is a nightmarish city plagued by violence and fueled by corruption. Aiden McCormick tries to solve a series of brutal murders that must remain hidden from the citizens of Detroit. But Aiden has secrets of his own. 5. Shadow's Daughter, Super Serious Comics, (cc/ @SuperSeriousComics)

Summer Rain, a bounty hunter and Shadowmancer for the Bureau of Preternatural Investigation, is sent to apprehend an unknown visitor who bears all the marks of a purebred being from the world of the demon moon. As she begins the hunt, Summer quickly realizes that she herself is being hunted, and her assassin is leaving a trail of blood and destruction in her wake.
