Live action
Hi everyone,
with the recent reheating of the trend to make manga/animes into live action movies (e.g. Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, The Last Airbender, Dragonball) or series (e.g. One Piece), what is your opinion about it? Do you prefer, if those productions remain with Japanese companies or do you like the Western take on them?
Best regards,

This is a really good topic to talk about real quick - I'm all for live-action movies, as long as the director stays true to the series all the way.
For starters, Scarlett wasn't a bad Motoko in my eyes but I feel like Akiomi (a excellent cosplayer) woulda made the ultimate Motoko on the GITS LA movie. On that note, I think directors would really want to start looking at cosplayers to play LA movie roles. There are so many talented cosplayers out here that know how to bring characters to life in these movies, no effort.
Another thing, I don't think directors really know where to go with VG movie adaptations. Tekken is the ULTIMATE example. I grew up on Tekken bro, and when I heard a movie came out I had to peep. Tekken has a excellent, intricate story and I couldn't imagine how anyone can mess up such a anthem. The LA movie was so bad, I got offended mid-way and had to turn it off. In my opinion, the movie was just the Iron Fist Tournament watered down, the actors barely embodied their characters, and Kazuya looked/acted like he did taxes for a living. Oh man.
To be honest, there are some LA adaptations that were done right, the 1990s Wangan Midnight movies were PERFECT, straight out of the manga and all that. The Initial D LA movie was really good too, even with the cheesy English VO's lmaoo. But then again, these came from Japanese directors, not American directors.
American directors aren't too bad though, they just have a loooong way to go, low-key man. Our adaptations aren't bad, they just aren't true to the games, and when they are it's still missing something important. Maybe it's just me. With that being said, if the MGS LA adaptation is horrible, I'm gonna have a really, really, REALLY bad day. I pray that God gives that director the heart and spirit to make it great and true.
