Ahh, I'm excited that you noticed that! I originally intended to have Dorothy's world entirely in black and white, but was convinced that it would be more impactful to have the otherworldly color "explode" in at the end of this episode, since Dorothy's world has been changed forever.

I felt for poor Dorothy when she realised Tyler didn't ask her out on a date and I loved how the explosion at the end made her whole world burst into colour. The monkeys making others turn into them via cuts/their blood reminds me of the Fringe porcupine virus and the rage virus in 28 Days Later

Keilly! Thanks for reading! You picked up on a lot of elements here. I definitely had a rage virus/Fringe infection in mind with the monkeys and how they "recruit" other monkeys (side note, I'm still bummed we didn't see Seth's acting chops in a full-blown porcupine transformation, but I'm also glad he got to stay human.) A friend convinced me to consider having the otherworldly color "explode" onto the page, and I loved that, since Dorothy's world will never be the same. I love that you picked up on that metaphor!
