Description
To feel others deeply is a gift. To follow those feelings can be dangerous. CYON is a supernatural noir about empathy, repression, desire, and the cost of surviving them. Cyon is a young empath trying to survive the emotional weight of everyone around him. Years after escaping the religious abuse of a South Carolina conversion facility, he has made a life for himself in New York City—still carrying what happened there, along with the ancient presence that has lived within him ever since. When Cyon crosses paths with Jared Moone, a former detective searching for a missing young man, flashes of the victim’s suffering draw him into an investigation neither of them fully understands. A disappearance and a dangerous new drug moving through queer nightlife lead them toward something much older, where human hunger, shame, and desire have consequences beyond the people who feel them. As Cyon and Jared grow closer, the abilities Cyon has spent years distrusting become harder to ignore. So does his relationship with the presence inside him, forcing him to reconsider what he has treated as a curse—and what responsibility comes with accepting it. At its center, CYON asks what it means to feel others deeply, and what responsibility does to intimacy when connection itself carries a cost.
