Amissio Membri translates to loss of limb. The GMC (Galactic Marine Corps) has compiled a list of Marines who have lost limbs throughout various campaigns, and smaller military engagements. Some of them are given the choice to receive cybernetic replacements for what was lost enabling them to get back in the fight. Those that are resilient enough get into what was termed the Ascension protocol, but a smaller number get fitted with the cybernetic gear and are placed in an elite group of recon Marines code named the "Mechanics". In the Ancient Illumination graphic novel series as well as the novels reader learn how Sgt. Garrison lost his legs. In this short run of comics, we start with PFC Long and will continue to get back stories on how his squad mates came to be confronted with that same decision. Either medically retire, go home with benefits, or accept the cybernetic enhancements along with the ability to once again take up arms (literally and figuratively) to seek revenge on the mutants that mangled you. What would you do? Each member of the unit is required to speak with a therapist to keep an eye on their mental health. It is through these sessions that we learn of how they came to be a part of the Amissio Membri files.
