What if Buffy was a 72 year old Grandmother?
Alma Bernard is in her garden when she is struck by the power of the champion and reborn. Coming to her aid is the Eternal Companion, born this life as a foul mouthed garden gnome.
Alma is charged with fighting the demons and monsters that inhabit our world and to keep the world safe for such terrors.
Aiding her in this fight beside Tyrone, her garden gnome companion will be the ghost of her dead husband and her 15 year old grand daughter Katie.
Refreshingly different! I like the fact that all the answers aren't there yet. There's plenty there that I want to know. Leaves me wanting more. The art style fits with the story and the sequence is well paced. I am an older comic reader myself, (started reading them in 1962) and was never a fan of Buffy. The concept was good, but the teen angst (of every WB show) was just too annoying. Back pain and sore knees I understand and empathize with. There are a couple visual holes though. When Alma is in the garden, she has her walker - I actually have one just like it., but when I'm using my walker, I don't keep my cane with me, and it would be especially hard to hold onto the walker and carry a cane that looked like a cross between the staff of Moses and the stick Wayne Gretzky used to win his 10th Hat Trick with. You would need three hands to hold onto the walker and juggle the staff. It's just too awkward. Even a regular cane is impractical with that model walker. Maybe most younger readers won't think about it, but it jumps out like a neon Girls, girls, girls sign next to a church to me.
Thanks for the kind words about Alma. I'm getting to the point where I emphasize with Alma's aches and pains myself. Actually that wasn't supposed to be a walker in her garden. It was one of those seats you can use to help push yourself up if you're kneeling in the ground. It did end up looking too much like a walker though. Yea, the cane is a little big, lol. But she's going to need it to fight the bad guys. The second issue is with the Artist Hernan now and it'll be done before long, he's pretty fast. And I agree, the art is great. Again thanks for the nice words and I hope you continue to read and enjoy the series.
Yes, the second issue is with Hernan right now, so I figure he'll have it done within the month. So the second issue will be out shortly and then we'll start on issue three.
I'm in love with Alma, this is a story type I need with an older woman in the lead. I love her level headedness and how she still has to do the mundane things, excited for more!
This is really, really great! Maybe you just caught me at the right time with the right words, but what you wrote about your mom is really touching. Looking forward to future installments!
