When Shadows Take Over

The Zenith Equation

Free

Daunte is suddenly pulled away from the tournament by Nil and transported into the mysterious Inner Tear, a hidden dimension where time moves differently. Nil reveals that Daunte’s obsession with reaching higher SSD forms is misguided. His true path to power is the Zenith State, a technique that massively multiplies the strength of a lower transformation through perfect control. Nil demonstrates the technique using only SSD2, yet his power rivals what Daunte can achieve with SSD4. He explains that Daunte must synchronize with the root of his power: trauma. To force him to confront it, Nil recreates the devastating attack that originally awakened Daunte’s SSD1, blasting him directly through the chest. While Daunte’s body lies motionless in the arena, his mind is dragged back into his inner seal. There, he finds the colossal cage containing his Inner Demon. The demon mocks Daunte for using its power without understanding it, but Daunte refuses to back down. Determined to master the Zenith State, he demands the demon show him the full weight of its hatred. The demon unleashes its power, dragging Daunte toward the cage as his SSD1 aura begins to ignite. Meanwhile, Anthony continues fighting Gary in the real world, unaware of what Daunte is experiencing. As the demon’s claws consume him, Daunte stares directly into its crimson eyes and prepares to face the source of his power head-on. “LET’S SEE WHO CONSUMES WHO!!” To Be Continued…

When Shadows Take Over

Flickering Alliances

Free

Davante, newly awakened with Fearless Resolve, offers Daunte and Anthony an alliance, claiming the tournament leader is the true enemy and that they’ll never survive alone. Anthony immediately rejects the idea, unable to forgive Davante for everything that’s happened, insisting he’ll never trust him no matter how much he’s changed. Before the argument can continue, Gary arrives, eager to fight. Anthony accepts the challenge without hesitation, promising Davante that once Gary is dealt with, he’ll be next. The battle begins with Anthony unleashing his incredible speed and Voltage Surge, even summoning his Spectral Spirit to restrain Gary while he lands a relentless barrage of devastating blows. Despite the assault, Gary remains unfazed, showing overwhelming physical strength. Meanwhile, an injured Daunte enters the battlefield, warning Anthony that something feels wrong about Gary. Distracted by Daunte’s condition, Anthony loses focus for a split second. Gary takes advantage, breaking free from the Spirit’s grip with sheer force and landing the first clean hit of the fight. The clash grows fiercer as Anthony’s speed and precision are matched by Gary’s overwhelming power. Even after landing multiple strikes, Anthony realizes Gary is barely affected. Watching from the sidelines, Davante senses a hidden energy beneath Gary’s skin—something far more dangerous than brute strength. The chapter ends with a shocking revelation: orange electricity begins crackling from Gary’s body, identical to Anthony’s own Voltage Surge. Staring in disbelief, Anthony realizes his signature power may not be unique after all, while Gary smirks and reveals he can control the Surge as well.

When Shadows Take Over

The Boy Who Feared Power

Free

This chapter dives into Davante’s past, revealing the origins of his fear and inner conflict. As a child in a Pyrian village, Davante refuses to fight, believing his power is dangerous. Mocked by others and watched closely by his father, Alexander, his fear proves costly when a powerful monster attacks. In a desperate moment, Davante unleashes his abilities for the first time, killing the creature—but not before witnessing his father’s death. His final words leave a lasting scar: power without control destroys everything. Traumatized, Davante begins associating strength with loss. Feared by his own people, he isolates himself and trains alone, growing stronger but emotionally hollow. Years later, he meets Antony, who recognizes Davante’s hesitation and teaches him a crucial truth: power itself isn’t evil—fear is. Though this insight pushes Davante forward, it doesn’t heal him. As he grows, Davante continues to lose against stronger opponents, reinforcing his belief that he is fundamentally flawed. His mind begins to fracture under pressure, developing an internal voice fueled by self-hatred. He comes to believe that his existence only brings destruction, ultimately making a vow: if he ever loses control again, he will allow someone stronger to kill him. The chapter ends in the present, with Davante standing alone, emotionally distant and burdened by his past. His quiet confession—fearing power because it takes everything—redefines him not just as a villain, but as a tragic figure shaped by loss, guilt, and fear.

When Shadows Take Over

Nil

Free

Daunte trembles as SSD4 refuses to fully activate—until his eyes flare red and cracks spread across his face. Overcome with fury, he tears off his shirt, blitzes forward, and seizes Vector by the hair. In an instant, they’re high above the arena. With cold finality, Daunte blasts through Vector’s stomach and releases him. The body crashes to the ground, lifeless. The transformation collapses just as quickly. Daunte falls from the sky, slamming into the arena as SSD4 fades, leaving him weakened and bleeding. Suddenly, the hooded figure rises. Floating above the shattered battlefield, he scolds Daunte for using SSD4 recklessly. He reveals his name—Nil—and calmly demonstrates overwhelming power, fracturing half the tournament grounds with a thought. Nil declares that SSD4 is not fueled by pain alone, but by anger, and reveals he has merged Soul Stealer Demon with the Tournament Leader’s power. Calling himself the ultimate being, Nil tells Daunte that to survive what’s coming, he must master SSD4 in his upcoming fight against Larry. Then, without warning, Nil vanishes. Shaken, Daunte insists on mastering the form immediately despite his injuries. Anthony urges him to rest, promising to buy time if needed. In the crowd, fear spreads—Davante reveals he once lost half his body to one of the looming enemies. Even Drax is horrified, unable to understand how Nil wields his power. As tensions rise and future battles loom, Daunte steadies himself, eyes locked forward. “Larry… I’m coming for you.”

When Shadows Take Over

Life Before Death

Free

With Vile reduced to ashes, Daunte and Anthony turn their attention to the final opponent—Vector. Calm but arrogant, Vector reveals his ability: he can spawn any object at will. Daunte dismisses it as useless and immediately attacks, launching Vector across the arena. Vector responds by conjuring a storm of falling blades, forcing Daunte to dodge while Anthony joins the assault. The two press him hard—until Vector catches Anthony’s strike mid-combo and counters. Smirking, he summons a bomb and detonates it point-blank against Daunte’s chest. The explosion rocks the arena. Blood sprays across the battlefield as Vector laughs, confident in his immunity to his own creations. But Daunte doesn’t stay down. Shaking, coughing up blood, Daunte rises with trembling eyes. The blast didn’t just wound him—it triggered something far worse. He warns Vector that the explosion is about to unleash a power he wasn’t ready to awaken. Vector mocks him, but Anthony senses the shift instantly. In a sudden burst of speed, Daunte vanishes and passes through Vector in what feels like a teleport. Blood erupts from Vector’s mouth. Desperate, Vector summons more knives, launching them relentlessly—but Daunte walks through the blades without flinching. Every strike only accelerates what’s building inside him. Vector stares in disbelief as Daunte calmly states he has long since learned to ignore pain. His body begins to tremble violently, energy spiraling out of control. The final panel lowers to Daunte’s feet as the words form— “…SSD… 4.”

When Shadows Take Over

Half-Second’s Of Hell

Free

Fresh from their brutal victories, Daunte reunites with Anthony and proposes their first official 2v2 match. Tony panics, revealing the grim truth of the tournament: points are earned through killing. With enough points secured, the two are fully healed—at the cost of nearly everything they’ve done so far. Their next opponents, Vector and Vile, step forward, but Vile immediately claims the fight for himself. Cloaked in escalating flames—first red, then acidic green, and finally an overwhelming blue—Vile proves untouchable by physical attacks. Even Anthony’s Spirit is neutralized when it’s engulfed by Vile’s fire, cutting Anthony off from summoning it nearby. As the battle drags on, Daunte’s rage begins to surface. His energy spikes unnaturally, his body twitching as he approaches something far beyond SSD3. Anthony senses it—this isn’t rage alone, it’s SSD3.5. With no other option, Daunte orders Anthony to activate his time-slowing technique again. This time, something changes. Daunte can move freely inside the frozen moment. Declaring the technique “Half-Seconds of Hell,” Daunte unleashes a relentless barrage of punches, striking faster and harder as he realizes Vile’s flames no longer harm him. As Anthony struggles to maintain the time field, Daunte delivers one final, absolute blow—completely erasing Vile from existence. As time shatters back to normal, Daunte looks down at the ashes left behind and coldly warns that no one should ever challenge two warriors alone.

When Shadows Take Over

The Mirror Man

Free

Daunte steps into his next match against Theodore, a calm and confident fighter who seems eager to end the battle quickly. When Daunte launches an SSD2-powered opening strike, he’s immediately punished—Theodore manifests a mirror shield that reflects the attack back onto Daunte himself. Without warning, Theodore’s demeanor fractures. His energy destabilizes, his appearance twists, and a second persona emerges: Erodoeht, a sadistic inversion who thrives on bloodshed. Activating his ability, Erodoeht reflects every lethal blow Daunte throws, turning Daunte’s own power into self-inflicted damage. Bleeding but unbroken, Daunte realizes something is wrong. Erodoeht never attacks—he only reflects. The mirrors are his shield and his weapon, but without them, he’s vulnerable. Risking everything, Daunte escalates the fight, pushing himself further than ever before. For the first time, Daunte activates SSD3 Second Gear, moving faster than Erodoeht can predict. The mirrors fail to keep up. Daunte slips past the reflections and lands a direct, devastating punch, shattering Erodoeht’s confidence. Begging and delusional, Erodoeht claims godhood, insisting he cannot die. Daunte answers coldly—mirrors mean nothing to someone who has already endured endless pain. Channeling all of his suffering into a final blow, Daunte delivers a world-ending punch that obliterates Erodoeht completely. As Daunte walks away bloodied but victorious, the faint image of the hooded figure overlaps him—silent, watching, and impossible to ignore.

When Shadows Take Over

Return To Sender

Free

The tournament leader, Drax, is left horrified when the hooded figure reveals he knows him personally—calling Drax his unwanted, deadbeat brother. Elsewhere, Anthony steps into battle against Vanta, a warrior encased in obsidian who thrives on absorbing energy and force. Confident and cruel, Vanta welcomes Anthony’s attacks. When Anthony unleashes Voltage Surge Stage 3, even superheated spirit energy fails—Vanta absorbs the power and converts it into overwhelming physical strength, sending Anthony crashing through the arena. Refusing to back down, Anthony pushes VSS3 to its limits, raining blows on Vanta. Instead of breaking, Vanta laughs, storing every hit before unleashing it all in a devastating counterattack that launches Anthony skyward, bloodied and shaken. Barely standing, Anthony shuts off his power and begins to think. He realizes Vanta isn’t just absorbing energy—he’s stealing momentum itself. Every attack fuels him. The only way to win is to strike without buildup, without time to react. Recalling his training, Anthony forces his voltage beyond natural limits, accelerating his Spirit faster than even his own thoughts. Reality itself lags. Time slows to a crawl as Anthony calmly steps forward, places his hand on Vanta’s chest, and releases a vibration that liquefies him from the inside. As time snaps back to normal, Vanta collapses—dead. Blood streams from both fighters’ eyes as Anthony coldly walks away. In the distance, Drax watches as the hooded figure disappears… unanswered questions growing heavier than ever.

When Shadows Take Over

Blood In The Water

Free

The tournament leader is left shaken after sensing a mysterious hooded figure whose energy feels identical to Daunte’s. Before answers can be found, Daunte emerges from the resting room fully conscious and ready to fight, bluntly asking who he’s killing next. Daunte enters the arena and is confronted by Greg, a water-wielding fighter enraged over Midas’s death. Consumed by grief and fear, Greg attacks immediately, launching Daunte into battle. Though knocked down at first, Daunte rises and activates SSD1, engaging Greg in brutal close-quarters combat as boiling water crashes against him. Greg escalates his attacks, scalding Daunte’s body with pressurized water, but Daunte advances through the pain without flinching. Even a massive water fist barely slows him. Desperate, Greg unleashes his wildcard move, Water Bullet, piercing straight through Daunte’s chest. For the first time, Daunte is genuinely injured—yet he smiles, acknowledging the hit. Using the blood from Daunte’s wound, Greg attempts a deadly follow-up, but Daunte activates SSD2, moving faster than Greg can react. In a single blur of motion, Daunte appears behind him and delivers a fatal blow straight through Greg’s chest. As Greg collapses and bleeds out, Daunte coldly admits he would have spared him if this weren’t a tournament. Greg dies, his blood soaking the battlefield. Elsewhere, the tournament leader confronts the hooded figure, demanding answers. The figure responds with chilling familiarity: “Shut up… don’t make me kill you again.”

When Shadows Take Over

The Face I Can’t Remember

Free

The battlefield falls silent as the crowd stares in disbelief—Daunte has vanished. As panic spreads, the story plunges inward, into Daunte’s fractured mind. He finds himself reliving fragmented memories of childhood: three kids playing in a yard, one of them erased—his face violently scribbled out. No matter how hard Daunte tries, he can’t remember who the child was. The memories twist darker. The erased child lies bloodied on the ground. A tall, hooded figure stands over them. Daunte digs deeper, recalling innocent moments—drawing at home, being a kid—only for the vision to shift again. Through a window, he sees the same hooded figure standing at his door, dressed like a grim reaper, before his father rushes him away. Faces remain hidden. Answers stay just out of reach. Daunte is violently pulled from this near-death coma by a voice shouting, “Awake, warrior.” Back in the arena, dazed and disoriented, he sees the hooded man standing among the crowd. Confusion turns to shock when the tournament replay reveals the truth—Daunte survived by dashing behind a rock at the last possible moment. Rising to his feet, Daunte’s aura mutates into something terrifying—SSD3 Rage bleeding into SSD4 Sign. He marches forward, unfazed by flames, and strikes the dragon with overwhelming force, reverting the shapeshifter back to human form. The camera cuts away as blood erupts skyward. When the victory alarm finally sounds, Daunte is laughing—unhinged—before collapsing in agony. As staff carry him away, Daunte scans the crowd one last time. The hooded man is gone.

When Shadows Take Over

A New Foe...

Free

As the next round of the tournament begins, Daunte prepares himself—finally reuniting with Tony, who casually tosses him a water before the fight. Refreshed, Daunte steps into the battle zone, scanning for Johnny’s remaining teammate. Instead, he’s greeted by a harmless-looking cat. When Daunte bends down to pet it, the creature suddenly transforms into a raging bear and attacks, forcing Daunte to dodge instinctively. The announcer introduces the challenger: Trevor of Treval, a high-level shapeshifter who boasts of being the strongest of his kind. Unimpressed, Daunte charges and lands a punch—only for Trevor to turn into a rat and flee, turning the fight into a chaotic chase as Anthony heckles from the sidelines. When Daunte grabs the rat, it morphs into a snake and bites him before escaping again. Back in human form, Trevor taunts Daunte, claiming he can’t adapt the way a shapeshifter can. That’s enough to push Daunte into SSD2 Rage Mode. As Daunte advances, Trevor panics and pours all his energy into transforming into a massive dragon. The dragon unleashes waves of fire, but Daunte dodges effortlessly, disappearing from sight before delivering a devastating blow to the back of the dragon’s head. Grabbing the dragon by the tail, Daunte spins it violently and hurls it into space, confidently assuming victory. But just as he declares the fight too easy, Anthony’s expression shifts in horror. Behind Daunte, a larger, enraged dragon reappears—now burning with darker, more violent flames. The dragon fires point-blank. From Anthony’s perspective, all that remains of Daunte is a charred silhouette burned into the ground. Anthony snaps, fury surging—while Tony and the spectators stand frozen in confusion. Cliffhanger.

Anthony soon notices a strange man in a green hoodie surrounded by sickly green fumes. When he approaches, the man reveals himself with a disturbing grin: “I’m Johnny… SmElL My pOiSoN…” Before Anthony can react, he accidentally inhales the toxic smoke and watches his skin bubble. Anthony strikes Johnny with his spirit and tries to flee, but Johnny dissolves into smoke and blocks his path. Every attempt to hit him only results in Anthony’s limbs being boiled away. As the poison eats at his body, Anthony’s demeanor darkens—bloodshot eyes, ragged breathing, and a chilling promise: “You’ve just got yourself killed.” Johnny mocks him, calling him an idiot for repeatedly stepping into his gas. But when Johnny looks away for a moment, Anthony rushes in and snaps his arm. Furious, Johnny unleashes more gas, melting off Anthony’s remaining leg. Anthony collapses, seemingly helpless.
