Sam Bateman was born in Haywards Heath, England in 1996, and moved to Adelaide, South Australia in 1998. Having been obsessed with cartoons from a young age, Sam developed an interest in drawing comics, and currently draws a webcomic titled That Kid Maya, about a young autistic girl navigating the quirks of neurotypical society, and has written a kids' book titled Beeing Proud: My Life with Autism
