Re: Marvel is now available on GlobalComix
@SovereignRanger: I don't see much reason to unsubscribe, yet, in my case, because I'm paid up until March or April, I think, but if I were paying monthly, I would have been out the moment they lost Boom. It's still the best place to get Mad Cave and Image, but when the end of my subscription comes up, I'm going to have to seriously consider if it's worth it just for those. Thing is, I  WOULD PAY MORE, to get all of the Marvel, DC, Kodansha, and Dark Horse, and never hit a pay wall, but if that's not an option, if singles or bundles are the only way forward, I just don't think I need to read comics that badly.

Re: Marvel is now available on GlobalComix
@Eric: Thanks for the response. I get that adding Marvel hasn’t directly taken anything away from Gold subscribers. It’s just that so many of us were sold on a subscription that got us all of the pay-walled stuff on Global, and now with the addition of DC, Kodansha, and Marvel, it’s like the barest minimum stuff has been included in the subscription, and the member discounts are practically nothing. Dark Horse adding paid stuff I was fine with, because it really looks like Dark Horse’s catalogue is solid on Gold, and the paid stuff is either genuinely premium, or early and will probably come to Gold in like six months anyway.

Our Gold subscriptions are just feeling less and less worthwhile because we’re back where we were before we subscribed, seeing some free stuff, and all the best stuff pay-walled. Even if it costs more in the end, your real comic addicts like me, who definitely can’t sustain the habit on singles, need an “everything included, no caveats” subscription tier. Call it Platinum or something, drop the price of gold a little, make Platinum another 50%, whatever makes the publishers happy. Or run two subscriptions, like an “Indies” and a “Giants” subscription, so on one you get your Mad Caves and Images and similar small publishers, and on the other you get DC, Marvel, Kodansha. Or make the big publishers an add-on pack. An extra $2 a month each to buy their channels, so if we want DC, or Marvel, and we don’t want to be hit with a price tag per issue, there’s a way to do that.

I don’t know, I’m just throwing ideas out there, some of them bad, some of them worse, some of them you might already have thought of, rejected internally, or even put to the publishers in negotiations and THEY rejected. I really just want to keep my Global Comix subscription worth having, because even though there are… “other options”… when it comes to acquiring comics, nothing beats services like this for convenience and discovery.

Re: Marvel is now available on GlobalComix
Jesus… Gold subscribers get a small handful of issues across 55 series (many of them just one issue, I didn’t see one with more than six!), and we still have $7 singles! Every time we see news posted it fills us Gold subscribers with dread because it’s either excitedly talking about how things are going to be so much worse for us, or it’s the reality of just how much worse things are getting when the previous new item comes to fruition.

The whole reason I paid for a subscription service is because, with my reading habits, buying singles is just not sustainable. I usually read between 12 and 20 issues in a week. Easily fifty in a month. I didn’t sign up to get a $1 discount per issue on the exact problem that drove me to subscriptions.

@FortifyingSturdyNomad: In print, at your local comic shop, I guess, unless you're familiar with unsanctioned maritime pursuits.

Re: Marvel Is Coming to GlobalComix October 15th
@EricTapper: Boom made up probably more than half of my Read Later, and about half of my currently reading was Boom, and now I can't even see what those titles were, a big problem for my Read Later because most of that was just added because the ad at the end of another comic looked cool, and I can't see the issue numbers I was up to for the ones I was reading.

I guess getting Marvel is good for people who weren't already subscribed to Marvel Unlimited, and if anything included on Gold is on my list I might read it here because the app is generally better. For me, though, Gold means now I'm getting some of what I already pay for on MU, a whole dollar off Kodansha, fifty cents off DC, some Image, and some Dark Horse (with the privilege of being able to pay for more).

I just feel like my Gold subscription is getting me less and less, and without Boom, that's 50% of the reason I'm subscribed gone. And if you're negotiating with a new digital distributor, now I guess I've got to be prepared for Boom to come back with the same model as Marvel and DC, with a rotating library and a small discount on individual issues.

Re: DC Day-and-Date and Back Catalog Arrive on GlobalComix September 17
Great that we're getting more comics, but I've got to say, as a gold member who joined when there was nothing that wasn't included, I'm not a fan of "exclusive discounts" on legacy comics. I was fine paying for earlier access to stuff that would probably come to Gold later anyway, but paying extra for issues from past decades just isn't something I'll be doing. I'm paid up for a year, but I'm thinking very seriously about whether I'll re-up next year.

Re: Radiant Black vol. 5
Thanks! Even if not a release calendar for everything (because that would be huge and complex), just for ongoing series, having a "next issue: June 5th" or something. You probably wouldn't even need to do anything in the app. Just upload a placeholder "issue" with that as the cover (probably hidden from search results), so when you get to the end of what's currently out, you load the next issue, and that's what you see.

Radiant Black vol. 5
Hey, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm just wondering when Radiant Black volume 5 will go up on Global? I know there's usually physical to digital delays on these platforms, to keep the comic shops happy, and I guess there's a delay on digital purchase to subscription for platforms like Global. With things like Marvel Unlimited, it's all one publisher, so you know the rule is three months from physical to digital for whatever is going to go up. I figure with a bunch of different publishers DC, IDW, Boom, Image, and various indies, no firm rule exists like that.

Is there somewhere we can view a release roadmap? Would it be possible, when the next release date is known, for the app to show us a date for the next issue/volume?

Thanks,
GlobalComix
