Interview with Bradley Golden of Second Sight Publishing

Kevin Community • Jan 31, 2024

Our 2024 Creator Interviews series continues this week with part one of our interviews with the members of the creative team at Second Sight Publishing. The interview today is with Bradley Golden, Founder, CEO, President, and Writer.

Second Sight Publishing is a Mississippi-based publishing house that has done many collaborations with a variety of publishers. The majority of their work focuses on the horror genre.

GlobalComix: Tell us a little bit about you and how you got started in comics. Was there a defining moment in your life that you knew you wanted to make comics?

Bradley Golden: Sure, my name is Bradley Golden, I’m the founder, and CEO of Second Sight Publishing. I got into comics due to being bullied. I had a pretty severe speech impediment, and my brother worked in a nearby grocery store. He seen, I had no friends and wanted to take me away from the pain of being ridiculed and bullied. Comics was my escape. From there I fell in love with them.

GlobalComix: What other publishers have you worked with?

Bradley: I have worked with Antarctic Press, Caliber Comics, and Dark Horse Comics.

GlobalComix: A lot of your stories are diverse in genre and themes, do you have a particular genre or theme that you like to work with the most?

Bradley: I prefer the horror genre. Most of the stories I write stem from the 80s style horror, from slashers like Jason to haunted house stories like the movie Night of the Demon.

GlobalComix: Is there a specific aspect of creating comics that you enjoy most, or a part of the process that fascinates you the most?

Bradley: The way artists portray my scripts are always fascinating to me. To see how different artist can have different approaches to coming up with the same goal.

GlobalComix: I’ve heard that you have some new work coming out with another publisher, can you tell us more about it?

Bradley: Yes, Second Sight Publishing have partnered with Dark Horse Comics to bring our horror anthology called Shook! A Black Horror Anthology to the masses. It’s a horror anthology, akin to tales from the crypt style storytelling with award-winning black writers like Rodney Barnes, David Walker, Kevin Grevioux, Brandon Easton, and John Jennings to name a few.

GlobalComix: How did that work come about?

Bradley: That came about when me and COO Marcus Roberts wanted to make a horror anthology and wanted to have some of the most prominent black names in comics. We already knew John Jennings, and Kevin Grevioux whom said yes to the idea first. They were on board and the rest fell into place.

GlobalComix: Do you have a title that you’ve put out so far that you are particularly proud of?

Bradley: Yes, Leave on the Light, is my baby, which is currently on GlobalComix with over 20k views.

GlobalComix: What comic that you’ve read in the past has made a large impact on you?

Bradley: It’s definitely going to be Something is Killing the Children.

GlobalComix: As a publisher, you work with comics and manga, what lead to that decision and are you looking to expand into making more manga-based stories?

Bradley: Publishing my own comics was always in the plans. Ever since I began with Antarctic Press. What I learned from Antarctic Press taught me the business of comics. From there, getting the partnership with a very reputable company like Caliber Comics was the foundation of Second Sight Publishing. We could tell horror stories on the mainstream level and show our brand of horror to the world. As a publisher we have to look at the trends that’s going and manga is clearly the right step for us to take with our horror.

GlobalComix: Is there a type of story, or a theme that Second Sight hasn’t published yet, that you’d like to see published?

Bradley: I would like to tell more slice of life type stories.

GlobalComix: Any final thoughts or upcoming books you’d like to talk about?

Bradley: Yes. We have Shook! A Black Horror Anthology releasing January 30-31st from Dark Horse Comics and our first Manga title called The Tears trade paper back coming out in book stores February 1st. The digital of the Tears is here on GlobalComix.

Thank you, Bradley, for making time for us! Congratulations on adding Dark Horse Comics to your roster of collaborations.
