Innovation is something incredibly important to anything we do; it keeps us moving forward, exploring, engaging, and reflecting. We recently met the team at Critical Entertainment, and were blown away by their commitment to continually driving purpose and thought through their stories. That's why today we're excited to officially welcome them to GlobalComix.
Founded in 2017 by Mason Mendoza and Christopher Reda, Critical Entertainment is a Los Angeles based publishing company that produces engaging and reflective stories by drawing desire from readers who want original, diverse, and creative content. The company can be found at conventions up and down the pacific coast, including the upcoming Anaheim WonderCon (April 1-3, 2022) and San Diego International Comic Con 2022.
“The key to our success is in the development of a strong relationship with artists, writers, illustrators, colorists, letterists, and other talent; driven first and foremost by fair and respectable pay. Our artists are allowed additional time and given the freedom to create the highest level of illustration. We aim to build a reputation of taking care of our artists and nurturing their talent. We also cherish the time, effort, and artistic perspective of our talent, thus fostering a quality-driven collaboration,” said Mason Mendoza, Owner & Publisher at Critical Entertainment.
“This creative-first method removes a lot of the day-to-day pressures that a serial comic series team may experience in the average publishing cycle and allows our artists and writers to really bring the characters to life. It shows in every book we print from Zombie Zero and Minion (Leandro Rizzo) to Planetary Expansion and Space Dragon (Alonso Molina Gonzales) to The First Americans and The Cowboy With Many Hats (Tadd Galusha). We don’t just slap pretty covers on sloppy internals—our comic books are a smorgasbord of skill through and through. By giving our creators more breathing room, we’re empowering them to do justice to our stories, as well as our fans.”
"We deeply value innovative approaches to storytelling, and in all of our conversations with Mason and his team, it's been clear that they want to do more than just tell stories. They want to tell stories with meaning," said Christopher Carter, CEO & Founder of GlobalComix. "We're delighted that Critical Entertainment trusts GlobalComix to be a destination for their digital library. We look forward to sharing their work with our global community."
