Catalyst Press Teams With GlobalComix to Spark Change

Kevin Partnerships • Mar 17, 2022

Helping to bridge gaps and make comics available where they normally aren’t, or opening eyes to new stories from around the world, is something we’re proud to be able to offer to the comics community. That’s why today we’re humbled that Catalyst Press has chosen GlobalComix as a partner in delivering stories from their imprints to the world.

Catalyst Press was founded in 2017 as a literary spark, seeking to bring voices from around the world to readers everywhere. A major initiative for Catalyst Press is through their imprint Story Press Africa, in collaboration with Jive Media Africa, helping to bring the stories of Africa, created by Africans, to a global stage.

"I see the best graphic novels as a unique way to combine the literary excellence of novels with the gorgeous illustrations we all loved and enjoyed in picture books when we were young. And for readers daunted by the idea of tackling literature or history from Africa, which they may know little about, graphic novels are a great way to ease them in. GlobalComix is the perfect platform for curious readers to discover the exciting, and ever-growing comics community across the African continent." – Jessica Powers, Catalyst Press founder/publisher.

"We pride ourselves on the vibrancy of our graphic novels— they are bold, colorful, and beautifully illustrated. We're also proud of the way that our books— graphic novels or not— let readers see across boundaries. Our books are a window into cultures, issues, and histories readers may not be familiar with." – SarahBelle Selig, marketing and publicity, South Africa

“When we learned of the mission behind Catalyst Press, we knew right away that we wanted to work with them to help bring their stories to a global audience,” said Christopher Carter, GlobalComix CEO & Founder. “Making comics available globally is one thing, but this partnership is about more than that. To be able to delight and educate our readers about the history of an entire continent at the same time is something far more powerful. We look forward to the ways we can spark change together.”

You can read four fantastic graphic novels today, with more coming later this year. As someone that loves to learn about history, I can’t recommend the Shaka graphic novels enough. It synthesizes multiple tellings of his legend into a very compelling story about one of South Africa’s greatest leaders.
