Citadel Chapter 0: Thesis Edition One-Shot
Citadel Chapter 0: Thesis Edition One-Shot
Comic - Fantasy
This 2-story, 32 page one-shot comic was the MFA Thesis I created at the Center for Cartoon Studies in 2010 after completing their 2-year comics MFA program. It is the genesis of Citadel as a story, and the year I spent working on this yielded much of the worldbuilding upon which I would launch the full Citadel series a couple years later, and continue to create to this day. It is a fun, if rough, piece of my creative history, but non-cannon to the main comic. I hope you enjoy this peek behind the creative curtain to see what ideas have moved ahead and what's been left behind.
The Scraped Shapes
The Scraped Shapes
Comic - Fantasy
Follow a brave-hearted yet awkward dwarf, a stoic monk with a penchant for cute things, a happy-go-lucky cleric, a cowardly yet lovable druid, and a murderously naive rogue as they stumble, fight, explore, and drink through the fantasy world of Hiraeth. Author's Note: This is kind of a less traditional comic format. I usually upload one page per week. The first chapter is a compilation of the first adventure arc. The subsequent chapters will be one or two pages per week.

After being rejected by his new muse, a frustrated photographer trying to create his magnum opus inadvertedly unlocks the door to a mystical world hidden in plain sight. A tale of obsession and desire as old as time itself, driven by ancient creatures who will stop at nothing to use and corrupt vulnerable souls for their dark designs.

My first series, thus very close to my heart. Somewhere it went sideways and is currently unfinished. After multiple attempts to fix it I've decided to set it down and start writing something new. I'm not sure if or when I'll finish it, but there is so much material I've decided to put it up anyway, and have included extra content like short stories and illustrations.
The Asylum for Unwanted Toys
The Asylum for Unwanted Toys
Comic - Fantasy
In the heart of Victorian gloom, where shadows dance with forgotten secrets and the ticking of clocks marks an unavoidable destiny, a story woven with threads of solitude, compassion, and a melancholic premonition emerges. We step into the workshop of a woman whose soul, as fragile as the most delicate porcelain, finds an echo in abandoned toys. Every seam, every patch on the bodies of these unique companions of wood and cloth, becomes a desperate attempt to postpone the inevitable. It is an exploration of the beauty in sadness, the dignity in resignation, and the echo of a compassion that transcends existence itself.
A Wish In the Dark
A Wish In the Dark
Comic - Fantasy
A Wish... ...is a powerful thing. No matter how small. In our increasingly complex and socially divided modern world, dreams and wishes can feel diminished. It is too easy to feel alone... In our story, we discover the unlikely, magical meeting of a Goddess and a Creature of the caves. While vastly different, both figures simply want to be remembered and have company for a little while. A feeling which I think all of us have felt in our lives. Featuring evocative, cinematic, hand drawn artwork from Canadian artist and animator Silya, A Wish In the Dark is another thoughtful modern fable from the mind of writer Nicholas Aaron Hodge in short comic format.
