In the future, humanity lives underground. When Jacob is plagued by dreams that indicate the world above may be safe again, he and other insurgents search to uncover the truth, putting them in direct conflict with Djinn, the trusted machine meant to ensure their survival. Is the future of humanity in the cold, mechanical world underground? Or is there a lush natural world waiting on the surface?
In the future, humanity lives underground. When Jacob is plagued by dreams that indicate the world above may be safe again, he and other insurgents search to uncover the truth, putting them in direct conflict with Djinn, the trusted machine meant to ensure their survival. Is the future of humanity in the cold, mechanical world underground? Or is there a lush natural world waiting on the surface?
Jacob, son of Administrator Anna A3644, is revisited by the recurring dreams that
plagued his youth. He believes the dreams indicate that the earth’s surface, once rendered
uninhabitable by a horrific malfunction of the Hadron collider, is now safe. But can he convince those
who live underground with him? And at what cost?
Jacob is approached by Correy, one of the notorious “insurgents”, who introduces
him to a rag-tag bunch who have all had “the dream” and who all doubt what the Council says about
the surface. But as mysterious deaths escalate, the price of their questions becomes increasingly
ominous...
Jacob, Correy and their compatriot Matthew go on a dangerous mission to reach the
surface and obtain evidence of its habitability. But can they reach it before Djinn and his murderous
help-bots reach them?
Jacob presents “evidence” of the surface’s habitability to Anna, who agrees to inform
the Council and have it tested for authenticity. The possibility of life on the surface pits Council members
against one another and escalates the danger to any who may call into question what Djinn says..."
The tests of the “evidence” of surface habitability call into question
whether the surface was actually reached, what its true condition is, and who can be
trusted...
As the body count rises, Jacob and Correy remain on the run, determined to prove
that the surface is safe. But can their will and wits withstand Djinn’s machinations? And can they
convince the others in time to make a difference?
