In my opinion, Katie's character has changed a bit. In the beginning, she behaved modestly but positively (before realizing), and after that she was constantly thinking, reflecting, and even exploring ways to escape. Now she behaves differently.
Can someone explain this to me??
@CannedShoelaces: Again, we should not try to see meaning in every little detail, e.g. that Od-Dog's freckles sometimes have different colors, or that Posh Pine in the first flashback scene (when Catie arrives) has his wristwatch on the wrong arm, or that 'teammate' is written with two m's (I guess), or that they have more than enough lighting equipment piled up there to beat any flashlight, free to take after the game ends...
One last thing that wonders me: every child has ONE item associated to them. Mule has a yellow cloth, Missy Mouse a scarf, Foxtrot a pendant, Elephant a top hat, Monkey has Black Shades, Posh Pine a golden watch, Shy Shark a yellow hat, Od-Dog a red Bowtie and Catie a yellow bow... do they have special meaning, maybe a reference to the Real Life world?
@CannedShoelaces: I agree with @GrabbingIntricateowl945 on this one, I don't think Od-dogs bow tie has really any significance. Plus, there are stage lights shining on the bow tie that Od-dog has.

Again, this gameshow thingie is probably just a 'filler event' taken from the original game idea (Backwards House was originally supposed to be a game, as far as I know). You have to solve obstacle X to get item Y, with item Y you can get past problem Z, and so on...
I also don't know why they are suddenly so affixed on those flashlights... when Od-Dog went up there, he didn't carry a light source either, and managed just fine. He also made a drawing of the "Doorman", which means there is at least enough light to see that one clearly. Also, as a cat, Catie can see in the dark to a certain extent, so she should have checked things out first before coming with flashlights, giving their positions away miles in advance.
And I somewhat wonder why Od-Dog requested such a strange weapon like a Scythe... when he went upstairs, he also carried something that vaguely resembled a scythe, just without a blade.
Monkey is a thief; I dunno why Posh Pine didn't immediately request his watch to be returned. Catie could also claim that "Those are OUR flashlights!", backed up by Od-Dog, and demand them to be handed over BEFORE any game events occur. And where the audience came from, that too has not been explained yet (the stage equipment is most likely - again - cartoon logic).
I'm afraid that the Catie / Od-Dog friendship will break as soon as Od-Dog regains his memories... he seemed to be such a self-centered and distant person back then, totally different from the good-hearted and a bit naive-acting current version...

Yes, that's why I said 'primitive locks', such as most people have inside their houses, that use keys similar to the one Od-Dog found in mother's room. You basically just have to push the locking bolt upward, not spin a cylinder and set pins.

@brightlight: The nightmares are - by story definition so far - not talkative and seem to attack the kids on sight at nighttime. Much unlike a cheering audience that just watches.
Mother most likely is NOT a nightmare, because she runs around while the house lights are on. More likely she is the 'curse' that keeps everyone inside the tape/TV. She does not seem to be hostile to any of the kids, although she seems 'clinging' and will probably refuse to let anyone leave.
It would be quite interesting if any of the kids confronted her directly... would she answer truthfully, avoid the topic, or lie?
They do not act 'logically'. A logical move would be to examine Od-Dogs sketchbook again to recover his real name. A logical move would be Catie asking Elephant stuff like 'How did YOU get here / what do YOU remember' or 'Od-Dog was the last arrival before me, your room is right next to his - so has Od-Dogs room always been there / what was there before he arrived' or 'Has there always been a broken hallway next to my room' and maybe even talk to the other kids too, anything that would bring them closer to the truth, and not really hunting for some flashlights that Monkey claimed possession of...
I would probably just take Elephant's mallet (the metal 'Braveheart movie' one he carried when 'guarding the door), go up there and say, "Hey Doooormaaaan, nice teeth you have there, want to keep them?" and see how that turns out...
Or just ask mother politely & innocently if she would show me her room... IMO there is a realistic chance that she would agree, especially if you are the CURIOUS cat...

I more wonder what kind of game Monkey will be playing. It kinda looks like a game where they spin a wheel and then ask questions based on the outcome. E.g. "Shy Shark, how many people fit into a 10-seat bus?" and then "Catie, now you tell us their names and addresses." ...
they are just taking a brake this stuff can take time and what if you worked a lot you might want a brake here and there some might be long others might be short.
Comic artists usually have at least one or two chapters prepared in advance, in case something REALLY bad happens, like an accident, an illness, or family matters. But IMO worst they can do is building an avid fanbase and then letting them wait longer than advertised and saying nothing...
I guess the Devil fruit, among many other hidden references, are just for 'fun', and not part of the actual story. Most likely Posh Pine will pick his watch, Foxtrot will pick the ring, dunno about Mule and Missy, maybe the bag of sand... but the flashlights will go to Catie. We already see her holding one on the comic cover.
BTW, one of the first drawings in Od-Dog's sketchbook was some sort of anime boy with dog ears, so Od-Dog could also be some reference to that character instead of his Real Life name.
I also don't quite understand Elephant... he had the open-door 'exit' right in front of him already, but chickened out to walk through it, or at least have a closer look, but still tries helping people to remember and escape?
I dunno if this was an on purpose ref but in Od-Dog's sketchbook (Check out Ep 3) In like the 2nd page of the sketchbook somehwere in the corner you can see Skynix's old human persona :D (Or OC Idk I forgot)
I hope they are ready with the chapter soon. I understand the wait though, they take their vacation to refresh, then return, get re-used to the rhythm, then they can make the next chapter with the same quality as the other ones. I hope the next chapter comes soon though!

As I was trying to say, having nothing better to do, I took a look at the Backwards House Wiki (try Google) and looked at some Od-Dog sketches. As it seems, the weapon he carried could also have been a golf club or hockey stick, and at some point it seems as if Catie has to fight him, which IMO is quite sad.
Also, I think claiming that some characters have 'non-binary' gender is just stupid. Od-Dog is definitely a boy, and someone who is named Catie is definitely a girl... unless Skynix wants to propose some really strange messages with his comic.

Look at all the times the characters refer to them in the comic, it's never she/her, that's for sure. It's also been said numerous times by the team themselves that they go by they/them pronouns and are non-binary. So I genuinely don't know what to tell you.

@Prime-Od-Dog: Dedicated fans may be particularly critical. This chapter is not as engaging as the others because it's literally "mid." The beginning and concluding chapters are usually the most exciting.
Just to note: 'non-binary' IMO has NOTHING to do with how the characters refer to each other (@MayApple) or assuming me being hateful (@Comixgalore) or being rude (@Algae), which I'm not. I'm just stating what I think is obvious. The way the characters are designed, it's clear from the very first glance that Od-Dog, Mule, Monkey, Elephant and Posh are considered male, and Foxtrot, Missy, Shy Shark & Curious Cat/Catie are considered female. And basically, I couldn't care less. But I think if you do want non-binary characters (it's YOUR comic, after all), then you should design them appropriately.
And while we are at it @Algae, can you name at least TWO non-binary characters (that are not a slime or Nanachi from 'Made In Abyss'), from any Manga, Anime or other source, if there are 'so many'? But as usual, as soon as someone utters something 'gender-related', hell breaks loose…
Nothing against 'non-binary' per se, but if you do that, IMO it should at least somewhat fit...

@MayApple: Well, I didn't fully pay attention, but for example in chapter 1, when Od-Dog introduces Missy Mouse, he refers to her as 'she'. Or in chapter 3, when Catie says she needs to talk to Elephant, Od-Dog refers to Elepant as 'he'. In chapter 4, mother introduces Posh Pine with 'he', and Posh Pine refers to Shy Shark as 'she'. Or at the end of chapter 5, Elephant refers to Od-Dog as 'him'. So implying that all characters have male/female genders seems... logical. But again, I couldn't care less if you insist Catie to be the only 'non-binary' one from the set.

Again, this gameshow thingie is probably just a 'filler event' taken from the original game idea (Backwards House was originally supposed to be a game, as far as I know). You have to solve obstacle X to get item Y, with item Y you can get past problem Z, and so on...
I also don't know why they are suddenly so affixed on those flashlights... when Od-Dog went up there, he didn't carry a light source either, and managed just fine. He also made a drawing of the "Doorman", which means there is at least enough light to see that one clearly. Also, as a cat, Catie can see in the dark to a certain extent, so she should have checked things out first before coming with flashlights, giving their positions away miles in advance.
And I somewhat wonder why Od-Dog requested such a strange weapon like a Scythe... when he went upstairs, he also carried something that vaguely resembled a scythe, just without a blade.
Monkey is a thief; I dunno why Posh Pine didn't immediately request his watch to be returned. Catie could also claim that "Those are OUR flashlights!", backed up by Od-Dog, and demand them to be handed over BEFORE any game events occur. And where the audience came from, that too has not been explained yet (the stage equipment is most likely - again - cartoon logic).

Yes, that's why I said 'primitive locks', such as most people have inside their houses, that use keys similar to the one Od-Dog found in mother's room. You basically just have to push the locking bolt upward, not spin a cylinder and set pins.

The nightmares are - by story definition so far - not talkative and seem to attack the kids on sight at nighttime. Much unlike a cheering audience that just watches.
Mother most likely is NOT a nightmare, because she runs around while the house lights are on. More likely she is the 'curse' that keeps everyone inside the tape/TV. She does not seem to be hostile to any of the kids, although she seems 'clinging' and will probably refuse to let anyone leave.
It would be quite interesting if any of the kids confronted her directly... would she answer truthfully, avoid the topic, or lie?

A logical move would be Catie asking Elephant stuff like 'How did YOU get here / what do YOU remember' or 'Od-Dog was the last arrival before me, your room is right next to his - so has Od-Dogs room always been there / what was there before he arrived' or 'Has there always been a broken hallway next to my room' and maybe even talk to the other kids too, anything that would bring them closer to the truth, and not really hunting for some flashlights that Monkey claimed possession of...

Comic artists usually have at least one or two chapters prepared in advance, in case something REALLY bad happens, like an accident, an illness, or family matters. But IMO worst they can do is building an avid fanbase and then letting them wait longer than advertised and saying nothing...
I guess the Devil fruit, among many other hidden references, are just for 'fun', and not part of the actual story. Most likely Posh Pine will pick his watch, Foxtrot will pick the ring, dunno about Mule and Missy, maybe the bag of sand... but the flashlights will go to Catie. We already see her holding one on the comic cover.
BTW, one of the first drawings in Od-Dog's sketchbook was some sort of anime boy with dog ears, so Od-Dog could also be some reference to that character instead of his Real Life name.
I also don't quite understand Elephant... he had the open-door 'exit' right in front of him already, but chickened out to walk through it, or at least have a closer look, but still tries helping people to remember and escape?

As I was trying to say, having nothing better to do, I took a look at the Backwards House Wiki (try Google) and looked at some Od-Dog sketches. As it seems, the weapon he carried could also have been a golf club or hockey stick, and at some point it seems as if Catie has to fight him, which IMO is quite sad.
Also, I think claiming that some characters have 'non-binary' gender is just stupid. Od-Dog is definitely a boy, and someone who is named Catie is definitely a girl... unless Skynix wants to propose some really strange messages with his comic.

@Algae: here's the thing, I'm not upset about the wait, or anything like that, thats a lot of money and a lot more than they expected, im all for a good work life balance, but when you do a Kickstarter or similar, and you promise to do a thing in why people should donate, keep your word. thats the thing, like had they prepped some pages or not promised that, fine. i dislike overpromising it takes the surprise out of everything, just underpromise and surprise people, especially if you get surprised by the money raised

Just to note: 'non-binary' IMO has NOTHING to do with how the characters refer to each other (@MayApple) or assuming me being hateful (@Comixgalore) or being rude (@Algae), which I'm not. I'm just stating what I think is obvious. The way the characters are designed, it's clear from the very first glance that Od-Dog, Mule, Monkey, Elephant and Posh are considered male, and Foxtrot, Missy, Shy Shark & Curious Cat/Catie are considered female. And basically, I couldn't care less. But I think if you do want non-binary characters (it's YOUR comic, after all), then you should design them appropriately.
And while we are at it @Algae, can you name at least TWO non-binary characters (that are not a slime or Nanachi from 'Made In Abyss'), from any Manga, Anime or other source, if there are 'so many'? But as usual, as soon as someone utters something 'gender-related', hell breaks loose…
Nothing against 'non-binary' per se, but if you do that, IMO it should at least somewhat fit...

I'm not biased, I'm just stating that by their individual designs, names and accessories, the characters in the comic strongly imply a certain gender. Feel free to ignore that, but IMO it's a fact...
Seen logically, if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... even when we talk about anthropomorphic animals.

@GrabbingIntricateOwl945: None of them act strongly a certain way outside of Foxtrot who is more typically feminine. You're just taking your own personal associations and putting them onto a bunch of anthro kid characters, where you've been told otherwise. Catie has never been referred to as a girl in comic and thats all that needs to be shown. If they were they would be portrayed that way.

Well, I didn't fully pay attention, but for example in chapter 1, when Od-Dog introduces Missy Mouse, he refers to her as 'she'. Or in chapter 3, when Catie says she needs to talk to Elephant, Od-Dog refers to Elepant as 'he'. In chapter 4, mother introduces Posh Pine with 'he', and Posh Pine refers to Shy Shark as 'she'. Or at the end of chapter 5, Elephant refers to Od-Dog as 'him'. So implying that all characters have male/female genders seems... logical. But again, I couldn't care less if you insist Catie to be the only 'non-binary' one from the set.
Don't call me names because I have certain opinions that don't match yours. You can believe whatever you want.

@GrabbingIntricateOwl945: Why are you placing a nonbinary character in a box just because they show more typically feminine features? Everyone expresses their gender differently and they shouldn’t be restricted just because they identify with/as a certain identity. Bows are just another form of clothing and aren’t necessarily gendered. Just because a character or person doesn’t fit the same view you have of that identity doesn’t make them invalid. Also immediately requesting the next chapter is extremely entitled, especially right after directly disrespecting a creator. The delay is because Skynix and Qifin been on vacation, which was explicitly stated at the end of this chapter. Managing annd creating a comic is very time consuming and they are not obligated to make chapters just because we ask for them.
