Friends. Magic. Swords. Death. And life (again).
Bethany is a minstrel, a wanderer, and a would-be hero seeking adventure. She's also a reviled necromancer, hated and hunted by all. To prove her magic isn't evil, Bethany needs help from a murderous mercenary, in other words, a friend.
Bethany is a minstrel with a heart full of adventure, a would-be hero determined to find a missing boy from the town of Llyne, and a friend to all woodland critters. But mostly the dead ones...because Bethany is also a necromancer. She's out to prove her magic isn't evil, and she'll need the help of a hot-headed, sword-swinging mercenary named Elissar—that is, she'll need the help of a friend.

Bethany is a minstrel with a heart full of adventure, a would-be hero determined to find a missing boy from the town of Llyne, and a friend to all woodland critters. But mostly the dead ones. Because Bethany is also a necromancer. Captured by the vile Lord Rolland, Bethany will make an unlikely friend, who is all-too-good at providing more corpses to raise.
Bethany and Elissar make their way to the city of Accrington. Well…Elissar drinks her way there, antagonizing the locals and losing all their coin in the process. As Elissar continues her binge in yet another tavern, Bethany searches Accrington for clues to the whereabouts of a rumored necromancer. Then some very scary men show up and take over the city.
Tristan’s Will has seized the city of Accrington in search of Bethany. Lord Commander Praga and the masked necromancer, Volgros, will stop at nothing to find her, even if it means torturing innocent citizens. When the townsfolk bring forward a young woman who matches Bethany’s description, Elissar must use her sword, and Bethany, her talents (but not necessarily her magic) to save them all.
After the events of Accrington, Bethany and Elissar are left with more questions than answers. Bethany’s latest lead to The Covenant comes in the form of an encrypted map. Desperate for guidance, Bethany agrees to visit Barnabus Gunne, an old acquaintance of Elissar. Weather-worn and boastful, selling stories of his glory days, Barnabus seems a dubious ally. With her goal just out of reach, Bethany can’t shake the feeling that something sinister is lurking, waiting to strike...
Bethany, the necromancer with a heart of gold, and Elissar, her prone-to-brawling companion, are off to find the Covenant—a sanctuary for Bethany’s otherwise reviled magic. Unfortunately, their map makes no sense. Seeking the help of a young wizard named Jonas, whose knowledge may unravel the map’s secrets, Bethany and Elissar discover a mysterious illness plaguing The Foggard temple, home to the ancient order of mages.
Bethany and Elissar are now heroes divided, each embarking on their own separate path to resolve the mysterious illness afflicting the young wizard Jonas. As Bethany’s investigation into the origins of the disease leads her down an all-too-familiar path, Elissar ventures to the village of the Vriihn. It’s here she encounters Kw’arianka, a soothsayer from her past who guards the secrets of her people’s affinity for dark magicks.
With Jonas joining Bethany and Elissar on their pilgrimage, their destination is now clear: Reach the capital city of Vallagard to translate the encrypted map. But riding in the open proves to be a terrible mistake, when an old enemy learns of their travels. Finding an ancient windmill for respite, the heroes will be forced to stand together—despite their uncertain bonds as a trio—against a dangerous assault.
Bethany, Elissar, and Jonas are close to solving the mysteries of the ancient map, reaching their destination of Vallagard: a sprawling city with a complex history. Here, in the shadow of the God-King himself, the heroic trio do what they must to uncover the answers they need.
Bethany is a necromancer and a hero. Along with her companions, Elissar and Jonas, she has finally found the rumored Covenant. Her perilous journey has brought her to the last bastion of the necromancers, but resurging prejudices have them in shambles. Can Bethany unite them in the face of escalating tensions? Or will the coming war shatter all of her dreams for a peaceful future?
