Eamon Vega, a bright 11-year-old from Houston, and his best friend Danny Kim are unwittingly used as test subjects in a dangerous military experiment led by Danny’s own father, Dr. Chung Kim. Designed to create superpowered soldiers, the experiment goes horribly wrong — Danny gains the ability to turn into smoke, while Eamon combusts into flames and dies… only to miraculously resurrect with mysterious regenerative powers.
Scarred by the betrayal and trauma, Eamon grows into a quiet, distant teen who rejects heroism and isolates himself from the world — until Danny returns years later, offering him a chance to use their powers to rob banks.
