In the near future, a group of skeptics prove the existence of Magic as a universal force. They also discover that only 1% of humans are able to manipulate Magical forces, causing a massive shift in the sociopolitical landscape. The ultimate result of this upheaval is the formation of two prominent global powers: Domains, mega-nations that span entire regions or continents, manage the affairs of the 99%, while the Magisterium, a globe-spanning judicial organization, oversees matters pertaining to Mages. Faction AER follows the stories of three young people as they struggle to find themselves and achieve their goals in this new, unstable world. Alex Hartvigsen, a Mage from a wealthy, connected family, has opted to attend a public Academy instead of his family’s private school. His bloodline grants access to a unique type of Magic, though it comes at a heavy cost. He seeks a solution to his family’s endless suffering, preferably without sacrificing their status among the major Houses. Elizabeth Lee comes from a large, working class family. Being the eldest of six siblings, she feels the weight of her family’s future upon her shoulders. She has earned a scholarship to attend an Academy, but she’s uncertain of how to make the most of it. She quickly finds herself spread thin, following others’ advice on what she should do, while trying not to lose sight of herself in the process. Rochelle Lachance is something of a recluse. She spends most of her time online discussing conspiracy theories, her most recent obsession being ‘Artifacts.’ Whispers in the world’s darkest corners suggest that these are powerful, sentient Magical items shrouded in death. The Magisterium has also taken interest, recruiting her as an official Artifact Investigator.
