Jonah’s Mission and Disobedience.
God commands Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach against its wickedness. However, Jonah, fearful and reluctant, decides to flee instead. He boards a ship headed to Tarshish, hoping to escape God’s call.
The Storm at Sea
A fierce storm strikes the ship Jonah is on. The terrified sailors cast lots and discover that Jonah is the cause of the storm. Jonah confesses his disobedience and tells them to throw him overboard to calm the storm.
Jonah’s Time Inside the Fish
After being thrown into the sea, Jonah is swallowed by a great fish. Inside the belly of the fish, Jonah prays, repents, and promises to obey God if given another chance. After three days, the fish spits him out on dry land.
Jonah Preaches in Nineveh
Jonah finally goes to Nineveh and delivers God’s message. The people of Nineveh repent, turning from their wicked ways. In response, God shows mercy, sparing them from destruction.
Jonah’s Reflection on God’s Mercy
