I WON'T change my Chapter Zero beginning. There were actually multiple beginnings to the story that I played around with:
- The rough draft literary version (on Royal Road) opened with President Daniel Lawrence and Ckrane discussing the need for new superheroes in 2030. Daniel pressures Ckrane and there's an obvious rift between the two that shows early on.
- There was also a deleted opener that would be grim and open on the death of the Officiators in 2029. We'd open with Oliver, Marnie, and Roger's reactions to their deaths. However, not long after that idea, the stories for "Rise of the Officiators" and "Fall of the Officiators" came to me. I felt like this opening robbed us of those full stories. I also didn't want to just fridge the Officiators. I grew to love them as heroes and wanted more audience time with them so their deaths could be felt and not spectacle (hehe).
- There was another opener involving the origins of the Dead-Enders as a flashback, but that ruined all of the mysteries that I wanted to uncover.
So then I wanted an opener that would establish the world new readers are coming into. Also, a false hopeful opener that still opened with Daniel Lawrence and Ckrane, but more politically focused.
