As Nikhil Deshmukh continues his journey through the sacred landscapes of Braj, his fieldwork takes him beyond temples, traditions, and historical accounts into the lives of the people who preserve them.
Accompanied by Keshav and Pradeep, Nikhil explores places where stories have been passed down through generations. From childhood memories and family relationships to devotion, love, cultural performances, and ancient traditions, every encounter introduces him to a different perspective on human life.
But Nikhil is not someone who accepts every story without questioning it. As a sociology student, he seeks evidence, challenges interpretations, and attempts to understand why certain beliefs remain meaningful across centuries.
Through conversations with priests, local residents, and devotees, he begins to recognise something he had previously overlooked: a story can hold deep cultural and emotional significance even when its historical claims cannot be independently verified.
As the journey unfolds, Nikhil encounters powerful narratives about humility, devotion, belonging, and the relationship between faith and human experience.
His questions remain unanswered, but their meaning begins to change.
Is understanding a belief the same as accepting it? Can a story shape someone's life even when its truth remains uncertain? And what makes traditions survive long after the people who first told them are gone?
