Jesus… Gold subscribers get a small handful of issues across 55 series (many of them just one issue, I didn’t see one with more than six!), and we still have $7 singles! Every time we see news posted it fills us Gold subscribers with dread because it’s either excitedly talking about how things are going to be so much worse for us, or it’s the reality of just how much worse things are getting when the previous new item comes to fruition.

The whole reason I paid for a subscription service is because, with my reading habits, buying singles is just not sustainable. I usually read between 12 and 20 issues in a week. Easily fifty in a month. I didn’t sign up to get a $1 discount per issue on the exact problem that drove me to subscriptions.

@NoobixCube: Hey, totally get what you’re saying, and I really appreciate you being straight about it. I just want to clear up one thing: the amount of stuff in Gold is primarily increasing (in case of Oni and BOOM!, we’re working to bring them back ASAP - they switched distributors so it's taking some time.)What’s changing is that we’re adding publishers like Marvel, and their setup includes titles that are approved for subscription, and those that have to stay single-purchase because of licensing. For those, we made sure Gold members still get discounts.I know it can feel like the experience is shifting, but the goal’s still the same: making as much as possible available to read in one place. Appreciate you caring enough to call it out.

@Eric: Thanks for the response. I get that adding Marvel hasn’t directly taken anything away from Gold subscribers. It’s just that so many of us were sold on a subscription that got us all of the pay-walled stuff on Global, and now with the addition of DC, Kodansha, and Marvel, it’s like the barest minimum stuff has been included in the subscription, and the member discounts are practically nothing. Dark Horse adding paid stuff I was fine with, because it really looks like Dark Horse’s catalogue is solid on Gold, and the paid stuff is either genuinely premium, or early and will probably come to Gold in like six months anyway.

Our Gold subscriptions are just feeling less and less worthwhile because we’re back where we were before we subscribed, seeing some free stuff, and all the best stuff pay-walled. Even if it costs more in the end, your real comic addicts like me, who definitely can’t sustain the habit on singles, need an “everything included, no caveats” subscription tier. Call it Platinum or something, drop the price of gold a little, make Platinum another 50%, whatever makes the publishers happy. Or run two subscriptions, like an “Indies” and a “Giants” subscription, so on one you get your Mad Caves and Images and similar small publishers, and on the other you get DC, Marvel, Kodansha. Or make the big publishers an add-on pack. An extra $2 a month each to buy their channels, so if we want DC, or Marvel, and we don’t want to be hit with a price tag per issue, there’s a way to do that.

I don’t know, I’m just throwing ideas out there, some of them bad, some of them worse, some of them you might already have thought of, rejected internally, or even put to the publishers in negotiations and THEY rejected. I really just want to keep my Global Comix subscription worth having, because even though there are… “other options”… when it comes to acquiring comics, nothing beats services like this for convenience and discovery.
