When the cocky Dylan Jax of the Cosmic Protection Bureau is assigned to do bullshit busywork with a grumpy vet named Skizz, he’s forced to confront the reality that his great destiny was just a lie his mommy fed him, and the organization he’s committed his life to isn’t as benevolent as it claims to be.
Bored out of his gourd and trigger happy, Dylan kidnaps Skizz to go on a mission to crack open one of his new partner’s cold cases that sends them both spiraling down a wormhole of intergalactic conspiracies, dirty cops, and big-time daddy issues.

Synopsis…When the cocky Dylan Jax of the Cosmic Protection Bureau is assigned to do bullshit busywork with a grumpy vet named Skizz, he’s forced to confront the reality that his great destiny was just a lie his mommy fed him, and the organization he’s committed his life to isn’t as benevolent as it claims to be. Thoughts…Thinking of how to describe this comic was hard at first but imagine the most hyper entitled daydreamer gets teamed with the most grumpy of grumps but in space. It's got that feel of Lethal Weapon but Murtaugh is a little alien dude and Riggs has the attention span of a puppy. Dylan is the sort of person that would test the patience of an angel and Skizz, well she's no angel that's for sure.
This comic sets the tone very quickly and from the outset you can tell you are in for more than a few jokes and some tongue in cheek writing. The characters are laid out in a great way, so from the start you can tell that Dylan is going to be a proper pain in the arse but I have a feeling over time he will grow on us all. Skizz I am sure will mellow in time but I think her backstory will be quite interesting, and a part of me wonders if there is a link to Dylan's dad in there somewhere…
I found that the art style really complemented the tone of the writing, there is quite a cartoony feel to it, it is a great visual for a story like this. There is a sense of comedy through the images as well with a lot of details in the background that will have you going back through the issue to see what you might have missed. There are a few pages where the art goes for that older comics book style that give it a Sci-Fi pulp sort of feel, great to see this all mixed in with the other pages. It's all quite vibrant and bright, even in space there are nice pinks and purples that give everything a nice hue rather than a cold black look.
I really enjoyed reading this first issue, it had a good story hook and some great humour. The characters are interesting and how their relationship grows will be quite amusing to see I would think. Witting writing combined with a great art style really sells this comic, and with that cliffhanger of an ending I can’t wait for more. I would give this comic a solid 8 out of 10
Holy shit I love this! Great characters and a solid intro to the series. I look forward to more Shitkickers! The silver age retro feel is so well done. Hats off to the art team for knocking it out of the park
