The year is 2002. Seventeen year old Monroe Félix has had a hard life. She drinks to cope, and even though things are bad, they're about to get much worse. David Black is a rich kid, and Monroe has caught his eye. Soon they begin a tumultuous love affair, but what Monroe doesn't know is that Dave is playing a game, where Monroe will always be the loser.
I dearly wish to read a story where when a man says he’ll kill homself to force his partner to stay she calls him on his bluff and tells him she doesn’t give a shit.
Monroe knows she has a problem, but it’s hard breaking those patterns. even when you’re aware of them
@Laylabelle97: it only had 18 chapters, but I enjoyed working on this. a lot of the story is bleak, especially chapters likd 11-17. but i wanted to give a hopeful ending
that was a wild ride through Mon's younger years, it was a good thing I already knew where she would be in the end mentally and in life, but the grown up kids was a nice twist
another great story. interesting to see the moments where Dave MIGHT have gone the other way. clearly he didn't, and like the twins, I shed no tears for him. Monroe clearly ended up a good mom too
@Wirecats: thanks for reading! I'm currently working on another prequel where we explore Darcy's youth and his upbringing, his complex relationship with his brother, and all his loveless relationships!

this was shorter and had a more optimistic ending than I thought. it makes sense this is the framing device

he has a lot of nerve to ask for trust from her.

threating to kill yourself if someone leaves you is really low and you basically take them as hostage.

@lennonade1964: Monroe should have been like "okay do it then"
