Description
**The Fracture Protocol, Issue #2 (“Quarnain”)** continues a science-fiction conflict among enhanced Sentinels, the Galactic Protectorate, A recap of the preceding issue establishes the setting: the artificial world Baridinus-12 is governed by the Protectorate and stabilized by a forbidden dark-matter construct. Sentinel Marcus Vale, known as Aether, holds local authority. Jax Harlan, a former fringe Protectorate operative permanently enhanced by Baridium, had seized a mining operation belonging to the Matriarchal Collective. Aether defeated him and learned that Baridium is not ordinary ore; it stabilizes the planetary core, and over-extraction risks fracture. This issue opens twelve years earlier on Baridinus 3. Jax and his wife, Serena, whose life depends on a mechanical heart, answer a clandestine offer at the club Clue Void. Recruiter Astra Kepler identifies Jax as a candidate for Project Watchman: exposure to raw Baridium intended to awaken latent genetic abilities. The payment would finance a biological replacement for Serena’s implant. Jax accepts, enters a secret mine, and is transformed—gaining strength, multi-spectrum vision, and the power to disrupt Protectorate technology. He cannot control the new ability and accidentally disables Serena’s heart, killing her. In the present, Harlan serves aboard a fugitive vessel with Stronthius, Aether, Proteus, Astra, and a blue-skinned navigator. They return to Baridinus 3 under a false news narrative that the Sentinels attempted to overthrow the Protectorate. An informant betrays them; an anti-Sentinel battle mech that can negate energy attacks pursues Aether through the city and into space. Proteus joins him. Astra destroys the mech from a fighter
