Batman in The Brave & the Bold: The Bronze Age Vol. 1
The late '60s marked the height of Batmania, when fans of the Batman television series and the comic books couldn't get enough of the Caped Crusader. Revelers celebrating the "year of the bat" in Gotham City's Chinatown are interrupted by the arrival of Shang-Zi, an ancient spirit who blocks off Chinatown from the rest of Gotham City with a mystical barrier as part of a plan to reinstate his 1,000-year rule on the Earth. Trapped inside the city, Batman attempts to stop Shang-Zi, and is joined by the Spectre, who was able to transverse through the barrier. While the Spectre matches might and magic with Shang-Zi, Batman tracks down the source of Shang-Zi's power, a magical wheel, and smashes it with a Batarang just as Shang-Zi is gaining the upper hand against the Spectre.

After a series of complex heists, the Molder attracts the attention of Batman, who begins a manhunt to find the sculpting villain. The Molder gains the upper hand when he traps Batman in front of an oncoming train, however the Caped Crusader is saved by Plastic Man. The two heroes team up, and in spite of the fact that the Molder's weapons work against Plastic Man's abilities, the two heroes manage to trip up the crook enough for Batman to defeat him and turn him over to the police.

When a train full of priceless artwork is replaced with forgeries by the Cannoner, Batman goes on a quest to find out who stole the priceless works, and enlists the aid of the Atom. The Cannoner, meanwhile, has tricked circus midget Lilli De La Pooche into taking a shrinking pill that shrinks her down to three inches and blackmails her into helping him stash the artwork until the heroes are thrown off.

While Batman is otherwise busy stopping crooks making off with an armored truck, the evil Copperhead has disguised himself as a poor man in order to get close to a visiting monarch and steal her tiara. When Batman finally tries to stop Copperhead he is too late! With his reputation on the line, Batman vows to somehow deal with Copperhead. Devising a plan, Batman sets up an electronic beam alarm to protect the Golden Casque of Montezuma. However, as he is setting this up, both Wonder Woman and Batgirl appear over the city writing messages of love to Batman before getting into a scrap over who is worthy of the Caped Crusader's affections. They both agree to a contest to decide which of the two are worthy of Batman's love; As the event is televised, Copperhead figures this is the best time to strike.

While aiding Commissioner Gordon in solving the murder of small-time crook Whitey Marsh, Batman learns that the killer was wearing a hook! Deadman, having come to Gotham City to seek Batman's aid in finding his killer, believes the villain responsible, the Hook, is in Gotham after overhearing the eyewitness account of Marsh's murder. The two learn that the killer was not the man who Deadman is looking for, but a thug working for Kubla Kaine, a wealthy businessman who is running for mayor and is secretly operating a crime syndicate out of Gotham City.

Newsman Jack Ryder (secretly the Creeper) approaches Batman with information that the criminal Hellgrammite is in Gotham City. This revelation leads to Batman and the Creeper working together to stop the mammoth crook from his bid to eliminate prominent gang members. Battling the Hellgrammite throughout Gotham, the duo locate him in the Gotham subway system where they down Hellgrammite with a combination of a fire extinguisher and the electrified third rail. After the Hellgrammite's defeat, the Creeper makes his escape to avoid his own arrest at the hands of the Gotham PD.

While trying to stop a theft and murder near the Gotham docks, Batman is mysteriously attacked by Aquaman. Suspicious of the Marius Enterprises company, Batman decides to investigate as Bruce Wayne, feigning an interest in donating money to the company's project to build a sea city. However, his knowledge of the goings-on puts him at risk and company head Marius orders Aquaman to kill Wayne. Surviving the attempt and bringing Aquaman to Gotham PD headquarters, Batman helps Aquaman snap out of his hypnosis and Aquaman reveals that Marius is really his half-brother Ocean Master.

Batman and the Teen Titans star in "Punish Not My Evil Son." Due to a promise Bruce's father had made to his friend to take care of his child, Lance Bruner arrives in the life of Bruce Wayne as his new ward. Dick and the rest of the Titans try to help Lance mend his delinquent ways, but Lance resists. When he finds out that Bruce and Dick are really Batman and Robin, Lance believes he can cash in on this knowledge.

When Bruce Wayne is called to the Gotham Museum to see the statue of the Archangel Gabriel smuggled out of Nazi-occupied France during World War II, because a man with a German accent called to claim it, Bruce informs him that the real statue is still in France and the one in Gotham is a fake. They are then attacked by a man Bruce recognizes as Von Stauffen. Bruce then recalls back to a day during World War II when he was in London and his friend, a British spy named Digby, is killed in a bombing and so Bruce covered his mission for the British forces. Traveling into Nazi-occupied France, Bruce meets up with Sgt. Rock and Easy Company along the way. Investigating a strange amount of wine coming out of Chateaurouge, Bruce learns that it's occupied by Nazis led by Von Stauffen. As a spy, Bruce is unable to learn what the secret is behind the wine, so he tries as Batman and comes to blows, again, with Rock and Easy Company, who happen to be in the area.

While busting up a crime scene, Batman is suddenly attacked by Robin, and then Commissioner Gordon and various people on the streets. Batman realizes it is actually Deadman who is possessing the bodies and attacking his former ally. Fighting off all these attacks, Batman manages to convince Deadman to stop, and soon learns that his friend was hypnotized into attacking him by the evil Sensei. Eventually, they learn that the Sensei plans to destroy Nanda Parbat. Batman and Deadman travel there and stop the League of Assassins from destroying the land.

When Willi Van Dort (son of the Nazi war criminal General Van Dort) plans to use unsportsmanlike means to win a race by having Bruce Wayne attacked, Batman enters the race, and with the help of Wonder Woman and I-Ching wins the race instead of Van Dort, who was willing to win by any means, even murdering Batman. The plot is foiled with the help of Wonder Woman, Batman wins the race and Van Dort and his accomplices are arrested. Wonder Woman also gets into some trouble with the law when it turns out the car she thought was a rental was the wrong one and was reported stolen.

When Bruce Wayne hires retired boxer Ted Grant to coach the U.S. Team competing in the World Youth Games in Vienna, Austria, Bruce helps bring a new sense of pride to the down-and-out former fighter. While Bruce (as Batman) aids the Anglo-American Military Intelligence to stop the selling of information to Russians, Ted is challenged by the Russian World Youth Coach--Koslov, the Hammer, a former boxing opponent of Ted's--to a match to determine which nation has the best fighter. As Batman tracks down the informant trying to sell the information to the Russians, Ted tries to help Batman out as Wildcat.

Gotham City is visited by a religious group called the Hellerites, a group of people who centuries ago owned the land that later became known as Gotham City. The forefathers of Gotham had forced the Hellerites off the land, and now they have returned with their apparent messiah and founder Josiah Heller, who was prophesied to come back and threaten to turn Gotham City into a desert unless the land was turned over to his people. Batman and the Phantom Stranger join forces to learn the truth behind Josiah's apparent supernatural powers.

After a near-death experience, Batman is visited by Adam Strange, who explains to him that after a freak accident involving the Zeta Beam, Adam was transported to Earth sometime in the future and found Batman's obituary. However, as Adam grabbed for the newspaper, he was transported back to modern-day Rann, only taking part of the obituary with him, so that the year of Batman's death is unknown. This information causes the Caped Crusader to become paranoid of his coming demise, and he leaves Earth with Adam Strange in the middle of solving a crime involving a contracting scheme and contractor Mike Morrison. However, when viewing Gotham City via a machine on Rann, Batman observes Alfred being taken hostage by the mob over gambling debts.

While Batman is on the trail of the elusive crime lord known as the Collector, Black Canary has come to Earth-One from Earth-Two, and has sought out the Earth-One counterpart of her husband, Larry Lance. Warned by Batman that the Larry Lance of Earth-One is not as good-hearted as her late husband of Earth-Two, Black Canary pursues a relationship with Larry. The two heroes get caught up in the Collector's scheme to see Batman killed; in the final battle, Larry is revealed to be the Collector and he is stabbed by his own knife and dies. Afterward, Batman encourages Black Canary to make a life for herself on Earth-One, and assures her that she has Batman as a friend and ally.
Issue 52
The Brave and the Bold (1955-) #92
While in England, Batman begins investigating incidents of murder on the set of a film telling the story of England's famous Scarlet Strangler. Enlisting the aid of the "Bat-Squad,"--Mick, Margo and the Major--the foursome searches the streets of London trying to find clues about the Strangler. Eventually, after a few encounters and mysteries leading the group to wonder if they traveled back to the Strangler's time, they find the Strangler in an old wine cellar. Saving Margo, and learning that the Strangler is film actor Basil Coventry, Batman's fight with the killer is stopped when they break through the floor and Batman finds himself pinned under a Nazi Bomb left over from World War II.
Issue 53
The Brave and the Bold (1955-) #93
In a tale narrated by Cain from House of Mystery, Batman slips up and almost gets himself killed trying to stop a normal thug, and is forced to go on vacation by Commissioner Gordon, who believes Batman is heading toward a total burnout. Reluctantly taking the Commissioner's advice, Batman (in his civilian guise of Bruce Wayne) takes a boat cruise in which he saves a small boy named Sean who falls overboard. Going along with the boy to his home of Arin Island, Bruce finds that mystical forces are working to have him solve a mystery on the island as Batman. Learning of a local legend of the Red Sea that has killed many (including Sean's parents) and the supposed cases of haunting on the island, Batman soon learns that it is businessman Alysius Cabot. Cabot is really dumping chemicals into the water that is causing people to die, and is using technology to play on people's superstitions.

The ghetto's of Gotham City have been barricaded off by a group called Stopp STOPP (The Society to Outlaw Parent Power), a group of disenfranchised teenagers who want parents (and adults in whole) to bow to their demands and fix up the ghettos; . Using Batman as their mouth piece, the Caped Crusader does everything in his power to try and maintain peace between Stopp STOPP and the Gotham police.

Batman is hired by the owner of Ruby Ryder Inc. owner, Ruby Ryder, to find her fiance Kyle Morgan, whom she claims went missing in South America; . However, when Batman finds Kyle Morgan and brings him back to Ryder, all is not as it seems!

When a friend of Bruce Wayne, Ambassador Adams, is murdered by the Companeros De La Muerte, a terrorist outfit, Bruce Wayne is asked to go to the country of the Companeros' origin as temporary ambassador. Little does anyone know that the Batman will not be far behind.

While Bruce Wayne is vacationing in South America, as Batman he saves a young boy named Luis Mercado from a sniper's bullet. Following the boy into town, he learns that his old friend Wildcat is also in the area, resuming his career as a boxer. Observing Wildcat's match and spotting somebody putting a chemical in his drinking water, Batman strikes and helps Wildcat and Luis escape. He learns that Wildcat has amnesia, and that Luis is being targeted by a crime boss named El Grande.

When Batman goes to visit his old friend Roger Birnam, who is dying, he promises to watch over Birnam's wife, Clorinda, and his son, Enoch It's a promise that will not be easy to keep!

Visiting the old Wayne summer home, Batman reflects on the happy times that he spent there with his parents. As he comes across the ashes of his parents, Batman is suddenly taken over by a malevolent spirit! Along with the Flash they travel to the spirit world to set things straight!

"THE WARRIOR IN A WHEEL-CHAIR" When Batman is struck by a sniper's bullet, only the skilled surgeon Dr. Hellstrom can save his life. the only problem is the doctor has to travel to Gotham from ZĂĽrich to do so! Plus, in "Hide and Seek," Deadman seeks to learn what has happened to the police detective assigned to his case. He discovers that the detective, Michael Riley, has been falsely accused of brutally beating a thief who had already surrendered to him, and has been kicked off the force!

The Joker puts a rare tropical disease into Dubek's water bucket, which also infects the other prisoners. A doctor gives them 72 hours to live.

These roots come from seeds that have been dumped in the city water supply and grow to alarming sizes once exposed to the air. During the chaos, the people of Gotham City blame the plants on the Swamp Thing, and the government uses this as a moment to try and capture him for examination. Batman gets in the middle and frees the Swamp Thing and asks for his help in dispelling the roots.
