Mikesaka Tamaki runs an art class in Japan. Through this slice-of-life manga, you'll get a peek into my daily life. By reading, you'll discover some of the drawing techniques I teach my students and catch a glimpse of life in Japan.
This episode might be a little confusing because of how I structured the dialogue.
Tamaki thinks that in Japan, companies often use a family name as their business name.
She also feels that in English-speaking countries, using a first name as a company name is more common.
So she worries that Japanese people who see a sign that says “Tamaki Art Class” might assume her last name is Tamaki.
Then the bird friend replies, “I like the family name Mikesaka!”
And yeah… logically, that response doesn’t really match the concern.
When I was planning this episode, I thought that miscommunication itself was funny, so I leaned into that.

Learning Japanese surnames is a bit challenging for someone like me.

Even as a native, I sometimes think Japanese is such a hassle.
I think Japanese could be a lot friendlier to people, like English is.

Even with explanations, it can go over my head 😅.
