Episode 1: “Static Trouble” In Depression-era Carvel, 12-year-old Jimmy McMahon accidentally crashes his father’s prized tractor during a wild joyride—earning himself a stern lecture and a sentence from Judge Hardy: pay back the damages in 90 days or face the music. With no modern technology, no savings, and no clue what to do, Jimmy dusts off old parts in the shed and builds a homemade radio station—launching a one-boy message network powered by The Message Relay System. But his first broadcast doesn’t go smoothly. Static interference, mechanical hiccups, and a neighborhood cat chewing through the wires send the whole town into confusion. Through the chaos, Jimmy learns how to fine-tune his radio frequency, translating his first message with help from his Signal Frequency Filter, and discovers just how powerful one boy’s voice can be. The episode ends with his very first official message sent out into the world—crackling through the airwaves: “This is Jimmy McMahon... signing on.”
