Ellie has immigrated from Beijing to study Fine Arts in Upstate New York. Upon graduating, she moves in with her mysterious friend Sammy Forster, a young curmudgeon who seems to be born in the wrong century. When Ellie sets foot in Sammy’s eccentric ancestral home, she's drawn into a world even more wondrous than Sammy's tall tales, and becomes enchanted by his family’s creative if chaotic lifestyle. Scraping by on odd jobs and fighting for a stalling career, Ellie finds unexpected solace in the Forsters. But as she grows closer to the family, she discovers the burden of the Forsters’ inheritance, and the true cost of a life devoted to art. Swimming upstream against demons past, Ellie and the Forsters must decide how far they will go to protect their treasure.
