Issue 4 “Pyrotechnics and Pulse Monitors”- Following Cyon’s psychic impressions, he and Jared locate a hidden basement drug operation where Darren is being held inside a locked refrigeration unit and psychically consumed by the effects of the drug. As Cyon probes the minds of the dealers, he experiences their inner world as a nightmare of craving, despair, and false euphoria, and for the first time begins to suspect the presence inside him may not be wholly opposed to saving someone. Jared breaks them into the lab, they recover Darren, and a confrontation erupts with the dealers—whose true forms burn through their human disguises in the resulting fire and explosion. The issue ends with Darren rescued but gravely compromised, and with Cyon and Jared forced to reckon with the fact that the people behind the drug operation are something more than ordinary criminals.
