PROLOGUE: JAE-HWA

In modern Seoul, Taekwondo is more than Korea’s national martial art. Beneath the tournaments, dojangs, and traditions lies Charyeok: a hidden spiritual force known only to those initiated into its world. CHARYEOK FIST follows young martial artists struggling with identity, belonging, ambition, and the expectations placed upon them as they discover that becoming stronger does not always mean becoming whole. The story begins with Jae-Hwa, a gifted Taekwondo prodigy whose talent has made him one of the sport’s brightest young prospects. But as pressure from his family, his masters, and the institutions surrounding him closes in, Jae-Hwa must confront a harder question: "what is strength worth when it still cannot make you feel like you belong?"
